You know what really gets me about Kaanapali Shores 733? It’s one of those places where the photos actually undersell the experience – and honestly, that’s pretty rare these days. I mean, sure, every listing promises “stunning ocean views,” but when you step out onto this particular lanai, you’re looking straight out at the kind of blue that makes you forget you have emails waiting back home.

The thing about this spot is its location along the Kaanapali strip. You’re far enough north that you’re not dealing with the chaos of the resort crowds, but close enough that you can still walk down to Whalers Village when you want decent shopping or that little gelato place (trust me on this one). The beach right in front of the building is actually one of the better stretches for snorkeling – there’s this rocky area just to the left where I’ve seen more sea turtles than I could count. Most people miss it because they head straight for Black Rock, which, don’t get me wrong, is great, but it’s also packed by 9 AM.

What I really appreciate about staying here is how it feels like you’re getting the real Maui experience without the resort markup. The condo itself is clearly been recently updated – everything feels fresh and functional, not like some of those places where you’re scared to touch the kitchen appliances. The shower pressure is actually solid (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in older Maui buildings), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase for a week. The kitchen setup works well if you’re planning to hit up the Foodland in Lahaina for groceries, which I’d definitely recommend doing – eating every meal out here will drain your wallet fast.

Parking is straightforward, which is honestly a relief after dealing with some of the nightmare situations at other properties along this coast. And here’s something that might matter if you’re a light sleeper: the building faces west, so you get those incredible sunset views, but you’re also positioned where the trade winds hit just right. It keeps things cooler than you’d expect, and the sound is actually pretty soothing – not like those places where you feel like you’re sleeping inside a wind tunnel.

The 9.0 rating makes sense when you factor in the whole package. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort with a million amenities you’ll never use, but what it does offer – that view, the location, a clean and comfortable space – it does really well. I’d definitely book this again, especially during whale season when you can literally watch humpbacks from your morning coffee spot. Just maybe don’t expect the concierge service you’d get at the Grand Wailea – this is more about having your own little slice of paradise where you can actually relax without someone constantly trying to sell you a timeshare presentation.
