You know what caught me off guard about Maui What a Wonderful World B&B? The name sounds almost cheesy until you’re actually sitting on their lanai at sunrise with your coffee, watching the mist roll off the mountains – then it just makes perfect sense. I mean, honestly, whoever named this place wasn’t messing around.

This isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly the point. It’s got that authentic local vibe that’s getting harder to find on Maui these days, especially with all the massive resorts taking over. The owners clearly live and breathe this island – you can tell from the little things, like how they’ll casually mention the best time to hit the farmers market (Wednesday mornings, before the cruise ship crowds) or which food truck actually has the freshest poke. The rooms are comfortable without being fancy – I’m talking real comfort here, not Instagram-perfect staging. Clean linens that smell like tropical air instead of industrial detergent, and you’ll actually want to spend time in the common areas instead of hiding in your room.

What really sold me was the breakfast situation. Now, I’ve stayed at places that promise “local breakfast” and serve you mainland fruit with a side of sad hotel coffee, but these folks get it right. We’re talking papaya from trees you can see from the dining area, and they somehow manage to make you feel like you’re eating at a friend’s house rather than a commercial kitchen. The other guests tend to be the kind of travelers who chose this place for the same reasons you probably are – they want to experience Maui, not just take selfies at it. I ended up getting some great hiking recommendations from a couple who’d been coming back for years, which is something that just doesn’t happen at the big chain places. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. Sure, you won’t find a spa or room service, but you’ll probably discover that little beach access that locals use, or find out which days the ukulele group meets at the community center down the road. That’s worth way more than overpriced resort amenities, at least in my book.

  full breakfast, lots of goddies that were supplied to our room due to covid 19 regulations in spite the fact that this property holds a huge breakfast hall and kitchen. koffee machine with endless supply. free use of snorkeling gear, warm hospitality. execelent location.

  This bed and breakfast was located close to the beaches and The Shops of Wailea. It was very easy to get around and the host was always support responsive. We were able to use their washer/dryer which was really helpful since we were continuing our trip to Oahu.

  If you are going to Hawaii, Maui is the place to be. If you are going to Maui then this place is perfect! We couldn’t get over how lovely the stay was here!
  Lovely room, great kitchen and sitting space, great kitchen facilities, amazing back garden for sitting, stunning upstairs views for sunset! Eva was friendly and lovely, helpful and kind! (Bonus adorable dogs if you want company, really well behaved and adorable). Washing machine and dryer was just what we needed and available for use. Both bedsides had wireless chargers that I now want in my house. Contact free check in and parking. Genuinely perfect for an amazing stay!

  Eva was very friendly and helpful. The equipment was good, you felt at home quickly and especially the bathroom was designed with a lot of love. Eva also allows you to borrow different things for the beach or to do laundry. It really is a great place to spend your holiday. A bonus point for us was Eva’s cute dogs

  Authentic Hawaiian accommodation in great location to beautiful Makena Beach and the best snorkeling spot. The hostess was super nice and helpful. Breakfast was extensive with great views. Easy to get to from the airport in 30 min.
