Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Mauna Lani Beach Club Pass D3 Golf Villas, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from such a mouthful of a name. But you know what? Sometimes the places with the longest names turn out to be the most memorable, and this spot on the Big Island’s Kohala Coast definitely falls into that category.

The villa setup here is actually pretty brilliant if you’re traveling with a group or just want more space than your typical hotel room. These aren’t your cramped resort accommodations – I’m talking about proper villas with kitchens where you can actually cook (thank god, because Big Island restaurant prices can make your wallet weep). The golf course views are legit too, and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s something oddly soothing about watching golfers struggle with their putts while you’re sipping coffee on your lanai in the morning. The whole property feels more residential than resort-y, which honestly works in its favor – you get that “living like a local” vibe without sacrificing the amenities you actually want on vacation.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the location within the greater Mauna Lani resort area. You’re basically getting access to some of the best beach action on the Kohala Coast – and I mean the kind of beach where the water is so clear you’ll spend way too much time just staring at tropical fish instead of actually swimming. The snorkeling at nearby Makaiwa Bay is ridiculous (in a good way), and it’s close enough that you won’t need to plan some elaborate expedition to get there. Plus, being on the golf resort side means you can walk to some decent dining without having to drive down to Waikoloa every night. The Shops at Mauna Lani are right there too – nothing fancy, but they’ve got the essentials and a few local treats you won’t find elsewhere. Parking is never an issue, which might sound trivial until you’ve tried to find a spot at some of the busier resorts down the coast. The only thing I’d mention is that this area can get pretty quiet in the evenings if you’re looking for nightlife – but honestly, when you’re watching the sunset paint the sky over Maui in the distance, who needs a crowded bar anyway?
