The location here is honestly spectacular, and I can see why recent guests rated it a 9.4. You’re literally steps from the water — I mean, you can hear the waves from your room at night, which is either incredibly soothing or slightly overwhelming depending on your preference. What really got me was the view of Lanai across the channel. On clear mornings (which is most of them), the neighboring island just sits there like a postcard, and you’ll find yourself taking way too many photos of essentially the same sunset every evening.

The Accommodations

The rooms are set up more like condos than typical hotel accommodations, which works really well if you’re planning to stay more than a couple nights. Each unit has a full kitchen — and I actually used mine, picking up fresh fish from the local market just down the road. The furnishings are comfortable without being fancy, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time on the lanai watching the ocean, you don’t need much more. The trade winds keep things cool naturally, though there’s AC if you need it.

Local Flavor and Practicalities

Here’s something you should know — Kaunakakai isn’t exactly bustling with dining options, so having that kitchen really comes in handy. There’s a small market in town where locals shop (not just a tourist trap), and the Saturday farmers market is worth timing your stay around. The property has parking right on-site, which might seem obvious but trust me, it’s not always a given in Hawaii. You’re also perfectly positioned to explore the rest of Molokai, though honestly, the pace here encourages you to slow down rather than rush around checking things off a list.

What makes this place special is the authentic Molokai experience you get. Couples seem to particularly love it here, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about the isolation and the rhythm of island life that just works. You’ll wake up to incredible sunrises, spend your days exploring empty beaches or just reading on your lanai, and fall asleep to the sound of waves. It’s the kind of place where you actually disconnect (the WiFi works, but you might not want to use it), and where a week feels like the perfect amount of time to truly unwind.

  The location is excellent, very central. Molokai Shores is a beautiful property. This unit is on the bottom floor, so easy walk out to the grounds and pool. The kitchen was stocked with dishware and things. The beds were comfortable. It is spacious.

  Positives about this place…great location, view, setting, grounds, vibe. We had a double ground floor unit with a patio leading onto the large lawn and near the pool. Very well kept grounds. Lovely ocean front view and view of Lanai. Place is well located, near town, and very quiet and peaceful. Beds, linens and towels were clean and comfortable.
  Wifi and TV worked, although the wifi dropped off and on and had to be rebooted.
