You know what hits you first at Montage Kapalua Bay? It’s not the lobby or the oceanfront rooms — though those are stunning — it’s how quiet everything feels despite being right on one of Maui’s most gorgeous bays. I mean, you’re literally steps from Kapalua Beach, which locals will tell you is hands-down better than the crowded chaos you’ll find down in Wailea, but somehow the resort feels like this peaceful bubble where you can actually hear the waves instead of construction noise or traffic.

The thing about this place is they really nailed the balance between luxury and not making you feel like you’re trapped in some sterile hotel experience. The suites are massive — honestly bigger than most people’s apartments — with these floor-to-ceiling windows that basically turn your living room into a front-row seat for the Pacific. But here’s what I actually loved: the kitchens are legitimately functional. Like, you could cook a proper meal if you wanted to, which is rare for resort kitchens that are usually just for show. The staff at check-in mentioned that a lot of guests hit up the Honolua Store (about five minutes up the road) for local fish and produce, and I get why. There’s something nice about having that option, even if you end up eating at Cane & Canoe most nights anyway.

Speaking of location — and I know everyone says this, but bear with me — being on the northwest side of the island instead of the south means you’re getting those incredible Molokai sunsets without the crowds. Kapalua Beach right in front of the hotel is this perfect crescent of sand that’s protected enough for decent swimming year-round, though honestly, the snorkeling at Honolua Bay (just a short walk north) is where you want to spend your mornings if you’re into that. The resort shuttle will take you to the Plantation Course if you golf, which saves you the headache of driving those winding roads after a few drinks at the 19th hole. Parking at the hotel itself is valet-only, which some people grumble about, but the guys are quick and you’re not circling around looking for spots like at some places in Lahaina.

What really sold me on this place, though, was how it handles the details without being fussy about it. The pools are heated to the perfect temperature — and I’m someone who usually finds resort pools too cold — and there are enough quiet corners that you’re not fighting for lounge chairs even during peak season. The spa treatments are legitimately good (I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas), and they use a lot of local ingredients that actually make a difference. The only minor thing I’d mention is that dining reservations fill up fast, especially during whale season, so book your tables when you check in. But honestly, with a 9.2 rating, this place has earned its reputation — it’s one of those rare resorts that manages to feel both polished and genuinely relaxing.

  Beautiful property and easy access to beach with complimentary services from the resort (beach chair, umbrella and toys!)
  We stayed in the three bedroom villa for a family of 6 adults and 2 toddlers, it was extremely spacious and comfortable! We loved everything about our stay and the staff were absolutely wonderful

  The room was gorgeous – very well appointed, everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They upgraded us to a three bedroom suite so tons of room. Breathtaking views. Pictures don’t do it justice! Family friendly resort with an awesome pool and beach.

  The resort was amazing from the moment we set foot. The initial view was breath-taking. The rooms/ suite was extremely spacious (family of 5) and extremely quiet! The balcony looking out to the ocean was absolutely wonderful. Every night they had a live musician playing soothing music out by the pool area. Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to help. After a visit to the more touristy areas, we realized how lucky we were to have a quiet sanctuary like this resort to come back to. The Valet service and Concierge were absolutely amazing and helpful at all time. This is an amazing place to go for a couple or the entire family. The Montage guests are provided with a complimentary umbrella and chairs down by the beach, The beach was a little busy, but still plenty of room for a family. I would recommend this location to anyone!

  저는 신혼여행으로 이곳을 방문했는데, 모든것이 다 가능한 리죠트라고 보시면됩니다. 호텔서비스는 두말할것도 없고 이곳에 묵고있다는 이유로 주변시설 대여 등 많은 것들이 편해집니다. 방은 한 대가족이 쉬어도 될정도의 규모였고 전자렌지, 커피머신 충분한 식기류, 다양한 주류에 해당하는 유리잔, 세탁기, 건조기, 등등 다있어요. 가격은 비싸긴한데, 그만한 가치를 합니다. 가까운식당에서 술한잔 한 날엔 가게에 몽타주에 묵고있다고하면 몽타주에서 라이드도 와줘요.
  주 이용고객층은 노후를 즐기시는 할아버지 할머니들과 가족 단위 이긴 했습니다.
