So I actually ended up staying at this updated condo in Waikoloa Colony Villas last month, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. You know how sometimes “newly updated” can mean they slapped some paint on old furniture and called it a day? Not here. Walking in, you can tell someone actually put thought into making this feel like a real home rather than just another vacation rental.

The thing about Waikoloa Colony Villas that most people don’t realize is how tucked away it feels despite being right in the heart of everything. I mean, you’re literally minutes from the Hilton and Marriott properties, but there’s this quieter, more residential vibe that I really appreciated. The condo itself sits in a spot where you don’t get the constant foot traffic noise – something I learned the hard way at other Big Island places. Mornings were actually peaceful, just the sound of birds and maybe some distant ocean if you really listen. The kitchen renovation is what sold me though – proper countertops, appliances that actually work (the dishwasher was surprisingly quiet), and enough space to spread out if you’re doing the whole grocery-shopping-instead-of-eating-out thing to save money.

What I loved most was how it felt authentic to the area without trying too hard. The lanai overlooks some greenery, and while it’s not an ocean view, there’s something nice about watching the palm trees do their thing in the trade winds. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to explore – parking is actually manageable here. I know that sounds boring, but try finding decent parking at some of the resort areas during peak season and you’ll understand why I’m mentioning it. The whole complex has that old Hawaii condo feel, kind of like how things used to be before everything got super commercialized. Check-in was smooth, no weird keypad malfunctions or confusing instructions. Just straightforward and easy. If you’re someone who wants to experience the Big Island without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble every second, this place gets it right. It’s comfortable, genuinely updated, and positioned perfectly for both beach days and those inevitable Target runs.

  We like the spaciousness. And all the practical tid bits you would have at home but could not bring such as peroxide, snorkel and beach gear, and plenty of blankets, and towels. loved the 2 large couches. I WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN.
