You’ll find locally made soaps that smell like plumeria (not the fake stuff), kitchen setups that are actually functional if you want to cook, and lanais that are perfectly positioned to catch the trade winds in the evening. Speaking of evenings – the sunsets from some of these cottages are absolutely ridiculous. I spent way too many nights just sitting outside with a beer, watching the sky do its thing.

The whole operation runs with this easy-going efficiency that feels very island-appropriate – nothing’s rushed, but everything gets taken care of. Check-in was this pleasant conversation rather than a corporate transaction, and the folks running the place clearly know the area inside and out. They’ll point you toward the local spots that actually matter, not just the obvious tourist traps. Parking’s never an issue, which might sound boring but trust me, after dealing with resort parking nightmares, it’s such a relief to just pull up and be done with it. The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re expecting resort-style amenities, this isn’t that kind of place – but honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s about slowing down and actually experiencing where you are, rather than being insulated from it. With a 9.2 rating, clearly I’m not the only one who feels this way about Nona Lani. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to keep your mouth shut about it, but also makes you feel guilty for not sharing something this good.

  This property is located in the PERFECT location to explore every part of Maui! We were only there for 3 nights, and we drove and explored the entire perimeter of Maui & really felt like we got a good feel for the whole culture of Maui. The grounds of the cottages are spectacular with blooming trees and plants everywhere! The owner was so sweet & accommodating. The cottages have everything you need. Beach chairs & towel pads were supplied. We enjoyed walking across the street in the evenings and strolling on the beach. Seriously, don’t look any longer, and book your stay here.

  We loved the warmth of this Family Run Motel and Cottages. The grounds were well maintained and the location right across from the beach and ocean was fabulous! Also the location for easy drives to shopping, restaurants and other sites was great! The beach here is beautiful enabling lengthy walks and swimming/sailboarding etc. Our room was comfortable and clean with a small fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer and bathroom shampoo, conditioner etc as well as shared use of a microwave right outside our door, Our porch was ground level enabling easy access to the grounds and quiet space. Great recommends for nearby restaurants and sight-seeing by the family were appreciated. Would loved to have stayed longer!
