Hotel Description
You know what really got me about this Waikiki condo? It’s one of those places where the name actually delivers on its promise – and honestly, that’s rarer than you’d think in Hawaii. I mean, everyone claims “ocean view” but this one genuinely has it, and not just if you crane your neck out the lanai at a weird angle.
The location is pretty much perfect if you’re the type who wants to be right in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of staying directly on Kalakaua Avenue. You’re literally a two-minute walk to the beach – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and it’s the good part of Waikiki Beach too, not the super crowded section by the Royal Hawaiian. The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering, because if you’ve ever tried to find street parking in Waikiki… well, you know. It’s included, which saves you about $40 a day compared to most hotels, and the garage is actually underneath the building so you don’t have to walk three blocks with all your beach gear.
What I really appreciated were the little things that show someone actually lives in Hawaii and set this place up. The kitchen has a good rice cooker (trust me, you’ll use it), there are beach chairs that don’t look like they’ve been through a hurricane, and the AC is powerful enough to actually cool the place down after a day at the beach. The shower has decent water pressure too – I know it sounds random, but you’d be surprised how many vacation rentals have that sad trickle situation going on. The decor is sort of that casual island style without being too kitschy, though there are definitely some dolphins in the bathroom art if you’re into that sort of thing. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a surfboard all night, and the ocean breeze actually does come through the windows when you open them up – though you’ll probably want the AC during the day because, you know, it’s Hawaii.
The building itself feels solid and well-maintained, not like some of those older Waikiki places that seem to be held together with aloha spirit and prayer. You can hear some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper, but it’s not terrible – mostly just the occasional late-night group walking back from the bars on Kalakaua. Morning coffee on the lanai watching the sunrise over Diamond Head is honestly pretty spectacular, and you can see the surfers heading out early at Canoes break. I’d definitely recommend staying here during the week if you can swing it – weekends get a bit more hectic in the area, but that’s true anywhere in Waikiki. The whole setup just works well if you want that local apartment feel while still being steps away from all the tourist stuff when you want it.
