Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places on Kauai, and honestly? This Alekona spot kind of surprised me. You know how some vacation rentals promise “panoramic views” and you end up squinting at a sliver of ocean between two buildings? Well, this isn’t one of those places. The views here are actually legit – I mean, you’re literally staring out at this massive stretch of Pacific that just goes on forever. I spent way too much time on that lanai with my morning coffee, watching the waves roll in and trying to spot whales (saw three during my week there, which apparently isn’t bad for April).

The condo itself feels more like someone’s actual home than a rental property, which I really appreciated. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you’re planning to cook – and trust me, you’ll want to, especially after you hit up the farmer’s market in Kapaa. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need because there’s beach gear in the closet, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and – this is huge – proper blackout curtains so you can actually sleep past sunrise if you want to. The whole place is clean without being sterile, comfortable without trying too hard. I mean, it’s a 3-star property so don’t expect marble countertops or anything fancy, but everything works and it’s got character.

What really sold me on this place though is the location. You’re close enough to the main drag that you can walk to decent restaurants (that little Thai place down the road is fantastic, by the way), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tour bus noise at 7 AM. The beach access is straightforward – no hiking down sketchy trails or anything like that. And here’s something nobody tells you about Kauai rentals: parking can be a nightmare in some areas, but this place has its own spot, which honestly saved me so much stress. The 9.0 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it nails everything it’s supposed to do. If you’re looking for a place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re living in paradise for a week instead of just visiting it, this is your spot.

  Management was very proactive with their communications and all questions I had were answered promptly before and during our stay. Lock box code was provided the day before together with detailed instructions on how to get to the unit and find the lock box. As we were on the island the previous week we were able to store our luggage at the office and it was actually delivered to our unit for us.
  
  The views from the lanai are spectacular. We enjoyed both the sunrise and sunset from our unit. The unit had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. The neighbourhood is safe and it is easily walkable to Poipu Beach. It is an easy stroll to the Grand Hyatt where some of our friends were staying during part of our visit.
