Pahoa Paradise Palms Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Pahoa Paradise Palms, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away on a quiet residential street in Pahoa. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The property sits peacefully among tropical gardens, and there’s something immediately calming about the whole setup. The parking situation is actually great here — you get your own spot right on site, which is honestly a relief when you’re dealing with rental cars and unfamiliar streets.
Location & Local Flavor
Pahoa itself is this quirky little town that feels like stepping back in time, in the best possible way. You’re about 20 minutes from some incredible black sand beaches, and the famous lava viewing areas are surprisingly close when Kilauea is active. What I really appreciated was how couples seem to gravitate toward this spot — there’s something romantic about being tucked away from the typical tourist crowds. The town has this laid-back, almost bohemian vibe with local art galleries and organic cafes that you just don’t find in the resort areas.
The Accommodations
My room was simple but thoughtfully designed, with tropical touches that felt authentic rather than touristy. The space was clean and comfortable, though don’t expect fancy amenities — this isn’t that kind of place. What surprised me was how well-maintained everything was, and the attention to small details like quality linens and decent water pressure. The windows open up to garden views, and honestly, falling asleep to the sound of tropical birds and gentle trade winds beats any white noise machine.
What Sets It Apart
Here’s the thing about Pahoa Paradise Palms — it’s got this genuine local feel that’s getting harder to find in Hawaii. The staff actually knows the area and can point you toward hidden gems that aren’t in any guidebook. I mean, they directed me to this incredible farmers market and a local swimming hole that I never would have discovered otherwise. The property itself has this peaceful energy that just makes you want to slow down and actually experience the island rather than just check off tourist attractions.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.5 rating isn’t just a fluke — people genuinely connect with this place because it offers something different. It’s not trying to be a resort, and that’s exactly why it works so well. You get authentic Hawaii vibes without the crowds or inflated prices, plus you’re perfectly positioned to explore the wild, volcanic side of the Big Island. For couples especially, there’s something special about having a quiet retreat to come back to after days spent hiking through lava fields or soaking in natural hot springs. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Hawaii, not just visiting it.
The concierge service in Hawaii can arrange exclusive volcano helicopter tours, secure reservations at oceanfront luau restaurants, and organize personalized snorkeling adventures with marine biologists.

The host was very friendly and helped us all they could with all our requests. The accommodation was of absolutely top standard and very clean. The ambience of the place was top-star, especially the semi outdoor shower was amazing and unique. Best recommendations from our side and should we come back to the Big we come here again.

The host showed a nice farm Papaya across the street from home.Dragon fruit. Pineapple.Banana. That was so cool. They even gave us bananas that we've never had before. It was very sweet. There's a filter for drinking water, a coffee machine, and a filter. There was even coffee beans, so I enjoyed Kona coffee at home.

Perfect setting, with beaches and a hot spring nearby. The apt. was very private and had a tropical style, with access to a lawn for outside dinning or star gazing. The hosts were fantastic, very helpful.
