Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Paia Inn – I mean, it’s a 3-star place in what’s basically a tiny surf town on Maui’s north shore. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions are completely wrong. This little gem sits right in the heart of Paia, and I actually mean *right* in the heart – you can literally walk out the front door and be at Charley’s Restaurant in about thirty seconds, which is perfect because their breakfast burritos are absolutely legendary among the windsurfing crowd.

The thing about Paia Inn is that it gets what this town is actually about. You’re not staying here for marble bathrooms or some fancy spa (though honestly, the rooms are way nicer than you’d expect). You’re here because you want to be part of this funky little community where rainbow-haired surfers grab acai bowls next to tech millionaires who drove up from Wailea in their Teslas. The inn feels like it belongs – the architecture has that old Hawaiian plantation vibe without being too precious about it, and the staff actually knows everyone in town. When I asked about the best spot to watch windsurfers, the front desk guy didn’t just point toward Ho’okipa Beach Park, he told me exactly which food truck to hit up afterward and warned me that parking gets absolutely insane after 10 AM.

What really sold me was how the place handles the whole “tourist in paradise” thing without making you feel like you’re in some sanitized resort bubble. Yeah, you’ll hear the roosters at dawn (welcome to upcountry Maui life), and sure, things can get a bit lively when the surf contests are happening, but that’s part of the charm. The rooms face either the courtyard or Baldwin Avenue, and I’d actually recommend the courtyard side – it’s quieter, and you get this nice view of the plumeria trees. Plus, you’re still close enough to everything that matters. Walk five minutes toward the ocean and you’re at Paia Bay, which locals will tell you is way better for swimming than the more famous beaches once you get past the initial rocky entry. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find on Maui – you’re staying somewhere that serves the community, not just the vacation rental industrial complex. I mean, where else can you check into your hotel, then immediately walk next door to buy fresh poke from a place that’s been family-owned since the 1970s?

Property was set within a quaint, retail shopfront exterior and also had large communal spaces and convenient access to the beach. Room was clean, well-maintained and also adequately furnished for a comfortable stay.

Great location near the airport is what we needed for one night to get some rest before we went further down the island.

Paia Inn was in a Great location! The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed sitting in the back lounge area just off the beach – wish we had time to take advantage of the "surf club".

Great location and very cool hidden garden and beach access

Fantastic location in the heart of Paia. Beautiful beach just off the back of the property. Staff was excellent.

We stayed here for only one night upon arrival in Maui so we would be closer to Haleakala for the early morning drive to the summit. The staff was welcoming and the room remarkably quiet for being on the main road (our room faced the main street). The chief reasions for the 8/10 score are that the room was small and the price of the room quite high, though we noticed on this trip to our favorite island that the prices for everything have risen markedly.

This won’t be the most appropriate review for the room I booked as I delightfully received a room upgrade upon arrival for my partner & I which was brilliant. I did however look the night before at the Booking site page and saw the room I initially booked was going for much, much less that very night so perhaps I was receiving a room to match the amount I paid. The room we received was brilliant, a large four poster bedroom with large bathroom, and private decking with outdoor futon & seating. The location of Paia Inn is perfect for Maui explorers and even if you don’t have a car, the town is full of dining locations, shops and the private access to the beach – though slightly treacherous so not for the faint of heart – was breathtaking. We spotted a colony of turtles on said beach all snoozing ashore and it was a highlight for our trip.

The host Sarah was very friendly and helpful, gave us a good tour to start off. the inn and outside areas are beautiful! two really cool outdoor lounge areas right in front of the beach. The room is standard but nice, and there are good amenities like coffee/tea bar, beach towels/chairs/boards. Best place to stay in Paia to enjoy the little town or to pair with driving The road to Hana.
