Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Phoenix Garden when I first pulled up – I mean, it’s a 3-star place and honestly, sometimes those can go either way. But this little gem completely caught me off guard in the best possible way.
The thing that hits you right away is how much the staff actually cares about what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth (no weird upselling or pushy add-ons), and the front desk guy – I think his name was Marcus – gave me this genuine rundown of the neighborhood that you could tell came from someone who actually lives here, not some corporate script. The lobby has this relaxed vibe that’s hard to fake, sort of like walking into a friend’s well-kept living room rather than a sterile hotel chain. They’ve got these comfortable chairs scattered around where people actually sit and chat, which you don’t see much anymore.
The rooms are where Phoenix Garden really shines though. Mine wasn’t huge – I mean, we’re talking 3-star here – but everything just worked. The bed was legitimately comfortable (not that fake-firm hotel mattress thing), the shower had actual water pressure, and get this – the air conditioning was quiet. Like, properly quiet. I’m someone who notices every little hum and click at night, so that was huge for me. The decor is simple but thoughtful, nothing fancy but it doesn’t feel cheap either. Clean lines, decent lighting, and thank god, enough outlets near the bed for your phone and laptop. Small thing, but the blackout curtains actually block light, which seems obvious but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that comes from good management. The hallways don’t smell like cleaning chemicals or that weird hotel carpet odor. Housekeeping clearly takes pride in their work – towels were fluffy, bathroom was spotless, and they didn’t go overboard with the bed arrangement theatrics. Parking was straightforward and free, which honestly saved me like forty bucks compared to some places downtown. The wifi actually works throughout the building (tested it in the lobby, my room, even the little business center area), and it’s fast enough for video calls if you’re stuck working.
I stayed during what seemed like a busy period – lots of families and business travelers – but the place never felt chaotic or overwhelmed. The elevators run smoothly, no waiting around forever, and the ice machine on my floor was actually stocked and working. These sound like tiny things, but they add up to an experience that just feels… easy. No drama, no frustrations, just a comfortable place to sleep and recharge.
Look, Phoenix Garden isn’t going to wow you with a rooftop pool or marble everything, but if you want a genuinely pleasant stay without the inflated prices, this is your spot. That 9.6 rating isn’t some fluke – it’s what happens when a place focuses on doing the basics really, really well. I’d absolutely stay here again, and I’m already thinking about recommending it to my sister who’s always asking for decent, affordable hotel suggestions.
Early hotels booking in Hawaii is essential during major events like the Ironman World Championship, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the islands’ renowned surfing culture and tropical beauty.

It’s a very special, a kind magical place. The house ist surrounded by beautiful garden. So we were really invited to relaxe. The whole interior of the apartment is very fantastic, many small wonderful details. We enjoyed a fine selected variety of books in Hawaiian culture and nature. The contact to the owner was really nice and interesting.

The house was perfect, very clean, the beds comfortable, the bathroom incredible, the balcony with the view of the jungle incredible too. It was like a corner of paradise, very exotic. I personally loved the sounds of the coqui frogs during the night. I really recommend this accommodation.

We had a lovely stay on the second floor of Jacob’s house overlooking his garden. This was great because there were mosquitos on the ground level and we hardly got any bites when we were on the balcony. We probably should have checked in first before going to the grocery store as he had the basics available in the kitchen, pantry and fridge. We felt like we were in our own home, which is how we like to vacation. Jacob even helped us with cutting open the 4 coconuts we had bought. And the laundry machines were an added plus! We also liked that he was eco-conscious!

Garden was pretty, rainforest sounds to sleep to, house has some basics like chairs and snorkel gear, they recycle and compost, full kitchen w/ dishwasher. Beds were comfy, rooms large enough, everything very clean. Fast WiFi! (200mbps+).

What a beautiful house. It exceeded my high expectations. We love the location but it is a long hour plus drive to volcano national Park or akaka falls and half an hour to Foodland so plan ahead. The WiFi is excellent and the kitchen has most everything you could hope for. The coffee maker is a French press. The refrigerator and pantry had a lot of basics which is much appreciated

The house is surrounded by nature. A vine-covered entryway takes you to your garden house. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the patio where we heard lots of sounds of nature and were greeted by cute lizards. Nice bathroom with everything provided like plenty of towels, cleaning products, and even essence oils. Full kitchen with abundant cooking wares and seasonings to make your own meals. Books and board games are there so you can spend time away from the internet. No reception for our T-Mobile, but wifi works well.
