You know what struck me first about Prince Waikiki? It’s actually right on the harbor, not the beach – which honestly ended up being way better than I expected. I mean, everyone heads straight for Waikiki Beach, but this spot sits on Keeaumoku Street area overlooking the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, and the views are just… different. More sophisticated, I guess? You’re watching sailboats instead of tourists, and there’s something really peaceful about that. The lobby has these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the water perfectly, and when I checked in around sunset, the whole place just glowed orange. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there too – not that forced aloha thing you sometimes get.

What really won me over was how the hotel feels connected to actual Honolulu life without being stuck in the middle of the Kalakaua Avenue chaos. You can walk to the beach in maybe five minutes (the less crowded end of Waikiki, actually), but you’re also close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and some really solid local restaurants that most tourists never find. The rooms – well, mine faced the harbor and had this massive window that opened, which was clutch because you could actually hear the water lapping against the docks at night instead of traffic. The decor leans modern Hawaiian without being kitschy, lots of natural wood and earth tones that don’t scream “resort room.” I will say the elevator banks can get a bit crowded during peak hours, and parking isn’t free (though honestly, where is it in Waikiki?), but the valet guys were quick about it.

Here’s the thing that really sets Prince Waikiki apart – it attracts people who know Hawaii, not just first-time visitors taking selfies everywhere. I kept running into locals at the bar and restaurant, which is always a good sign. The infinity pool overlooks the harbor and catches this amazing breeze in the afternoons, and there’s usually space to actually swim laps if you’re into that. Plus, being slightly off the main tourist drag means you can get decent dinner reservations and the hotel restaurants don’t feel like cattle calls. The concierge actually gave me directions to a hiking trail I’d never heard of instead of just handing me a generic activity list. Look, it’s not the flashiest place on the island, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want – somewhere that feels like Hawaii without performing Hawaii, if that makes sense.

  Quiet room, very comfortable bed with great pillows. Spacoius bathroom with walk-in shower and separate bathtub. Loved how you could open the windows and let in the fresh air. Pool was nice, albeit small. Pleasant staff, large lobby with coffee shop and convenience store. Walking distance to Ala Moana shopping center.
