I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Renaissance Residences Oahu opening up in 2024, I was a little skeptical. I mean, Honolulu already has its share of fancy hotels, and the last thing we needed was another cookie-cutter resort trying too hard to be everything to everyone. But after spending some time there, I get why it’s already pulling in an 8.8 rating.

The thing that actually impressed me most wasn’t the obvious five-star stuff (though yeah, everything’s immaculate and clearly brand new). It’s how they’ve managed to feel genuinely Hawaiian without going overboard with the tiki torches and plastic leis situation. You know what I mean – that fine line between authentic island vibes and tourist trap territory. The lobby has this gorgeous koa wood installation that changes color as the light shifts throughout the day, and honestly, I found myself just sitting there with my coffee in the mornings watching it transform. The staff seems to really know their stuff too – not just the scripted recommendations, but actual insights about which beaches are less crowded on weekends or where to grab the best plate lunch nearby.

What really sold me though was how quiet it stays, even when it’s fully booked. I’m someone who notices every elevator ding and hallway conversation, but the soundproofing here is remarkable. Plus, the rooms have these deep soaking tubs that look out toward the mountains – not the ocean view you might expect, but actually more peaceful in my opinion. The beds are that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole. Check-in was surprisingly smooth for such a new property; they’ve clearly worked out most of the kinks you’d expect from a place that just opened. Parking is valet only, which some people might find annoying, but given how tight space is in this part of town, it actually makes sense. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when families arrive, but if you go early morning or after 5, you’ll practically have it to yourself. I mean, it’s not cheap – this is definitely a splurge-level stay – but for a special occasion or if you just want to feel properly pampered for a few days, Renaissance Residences delivers on that five-star promise without making you feel like you’re staying in some sterile luxury box.

  New building with a good pool and deck, Japanese-style baths and good-sized rooms with good views. Location is convenient – away from the crowds of Waikiki but still close enough that it is accessible. Good access to the rest of Honolulu including restaurants of Chinatown and easy access to H1. Mare, both the restaurant and the bar, are very good. The front desk teams, concierge and valet teams were all very attentive and helpful.
