Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort Overview

You know what hits you first at the Sheraton Waikiki? It’s not the lobby or the check-in desk – it’s that you’re literally right there on the beach. I mean, you walk out the back and your feet are in sand within maybe thirty seconds. The hotel sits smack in the middle of Waikiki Beach, which honestly can be a blessing and a curse depending on what you’re after.

The property itself is one of those classic Waikiki towers – you’ve probably seen it in movies without realizing it. It’s big, and I mean really big, so don’t expect some boutique experience where the staff knows your name by day two. But here’s the thing: they’ve kept it up really well for a place that probably sees thousands of guests cycling through every week. The rooms on the ocean side are where you want to be if you can swing it, because that view of Diamond Head in the morning? Yeah, it’s worth the extra cost. The mountain-side rooms aren’t terrible either – you get these glimpses of the city and the Ko’olau mountains that most people miss because they’re so focused on the water.

What I actually love about staying here is how it puts you right in the thick of everything without feeling too chaotic. You’re a quick walk to Duke’s (get the hula pie, seriously), and if you head toward the Royal Hawaiian Center, there’s this little side street – Lewers Street – where you can duck into some decent local spots that aren’t completely overrun with tour groups. The hotel’s pool area gets absolutely packed during peak hours, like 11 to 3, but if you’re an early riser or don’t mind hanging out there after 4, it’s actually pretty pleasant. There’s something nice about having a drink poolside while you can still hear the waves just beyond the palm trees.

The staff here knows their stuff – they’ve seen every type of traveler and pretty much every situation you can imagine. Check-in can be a bit of a wait during the weekend rushes, but they usually have someone offering you water or a cold towel, which honestly makes standing around more tolerable. One thing to keep in mind: this is Waikiki, so yeah, it gets busy and it gets loud, especially on weekend nights when people are walking back from the bars along Kalakaua Avenue. If you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs or request a higher floor.

Is it perfect? Well, no – the elevators can be slow when everyone’s heading down to the beach at the same time, and room service is pretty expensive even by Hawaii standards. But there’s something about this place that just works. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-located hotel that delivers on the main promise: you want to be on Waikiki Beach, and boom, you’re on Waikiki Beach. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The location, views, pools and room are all amazing. We booked the diamond head oceanfront view and it was worth every moment. The view as truly something special. I would book this hotel again in a heartbeat. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at.

Very clean and modern rooms, easy check in, friendly staff. Location was amazing as it was surrounded with shops and food places. We loved the pool and the beach right outside. Games for the kids, we also stayed in the partial ocean view room and was great, beautiful view of the ocean and the city, we also watched the Friday night fireworks from our balcony. Everything was amazing, definitely the best resort vibe.
