Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sugar Beach Resort, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions get completely flipped on their head. The lobby has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that immediately tells you this isn’t trying to be some fancy resort where you’re afraid to put your feet up. It’s the kind of place where the staff actually remembers your name by day two, and the front desk folks genuinely seem to care whether you’re having a good time.

The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s kind of refreshing. You get a decent bed (I mean, I slept well every night, which is really all that matters), and the AC actually works properly, which trust me, you’ll appreciate. The bathrooms are a bit dated but everything functions fine, and there’s decent water pressure in the shower. What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night – I was expecting typical resort noise, doors slamming, people in the hallways, but it’s actually pretty peaceful once things settle down around 10 PM. The beach access is probably the real winner here though. It’s not the most pristine stretch of sand you’ll ever see, but it’s genuine and uncrowded, especially if you head out early morning or later in the afternoon. You can actually find a spot to yourself, which is getting harder and harder to do these days.

Here’s the thing about Sugar Beach Resort – it knows exactly what it is, and it does that well without trying to be something it’s not. The dining isn’t going to blow your mind, but the breakfast is solid (their local fruit selection is actually pretty impressive), and there are some decent local spots within walking distance if you want to venture out. The pool area gets busy around midday, but there’s usually space if you’re flexible with timing. Parking is straightforward and free, which might sound minor but you’ll appreciate not dealing with valet fees or hunting for spots. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – this place delivers on the basics really well and throws in some pleasant surprises along the way. It’s not luxury, but it’s genuine hospitality in a spot where you can actually relax without constantly worrying about extra charges or pretentious service. If you’re looking for a place to unwind without the fuss, this is honestly a solid choice.

  This was a very comfy home away from home for us! The decor was nice, comfortable size, clean and we had the beach in our backyard! Location was great! Easy access to meet up with our family friends or catch a bite to eat or do some shopping! Truly enjoyed our week here!! Mahalo nui loa!

  Being right on the beach, the hotel was well located and sea views from the apartment were great. The room was really spacious as well. The access to the pool and BBQ facilities also added a lot of fun to our stay. Parking was free and spacious.

  Great location right on Sugar Beach with easy access to the rest of the island (I love Kihei!) Clean condo Loved the facilities with the big grill area right next to the beach and the large pool area that my son loved. Very nicely maintained property with beautiful garden and koi pond. Condo had a great view of the ocean and there was plenty of parking close to the resort and condos, never had to fight for a parking spot. The staff provided excellent service for the few issuess I had and was quick to come up with solutions.

  The beachfront view from unit 514 was fabulous !!! Large balconies. Spacious unit with everything that you need for a stay in a condo on the beach. The "welcome package" was very thoughtful and useful — it was very much appreciated. Very comfortable unit….
