What I didn’t expect was how quiet it gets at night. Pahoa can be pretty sleepy once the sun goes down, and you’ll hear the coqui frogs doing their thing – which is either charming or mildly annoying depending on your mood (earplugs are in the room, thankfully). The place itself has this laid-back vibe that just works. It’s not fancy in that sterile hotel way, but everything’s clean and comfortable, and there’s actually character here.
