You know what struck me first about The Honomu House? It’s one of those places that actually lives up to its name – this really is a gorgeous home, not just some rental trying to sound fancy. I mean, when you pull up to this four-bedroom spot in Honomu, you’re basically in the middle of Big Island paradise without the tourist chaos of Kona. The house sits spacious and welcoming, and honestly, the photos don’t do it justice. You’ve got room for twelve people here, which sounds crazy until you see how thoughtfully everything’s laid out. The two bathrooms are well-positioned (trust me, this matters when you’re traveling with a group), and there’s actually space for everyone to spread out without feeling like you’re stepping on each other.

What really gets me about this place is the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way everyone throws around. Honomu is this little gem of a town that most people zip past on their way to Akaka Falls, but staying here puts you right in the sweet spot. You’re literally minutes from some of the most stunning waterfalls on the island, including Akaka Falls obviously, but also Hi’ilawe Falls if you’re up for a bit more adventure. The drive into Hilo takes maybe twenty minutes on a good day, which means you can actually enjoy the town’s farmers market and restaurants without paying those insane oceanfront accommodation prices. And here’s something the guidebooks won’t tell you – the sound at night is incredible. No traffic, no resort noise, just the natural symphony of the rainforest settling in around you.

The house itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile vacation rental, which explains that stellar 9.3 rating. There are those little touches that make you comfortable – decent kitchen setup for cooking (the local fish market in Hilo has amazing catches if you’re into that), comfortable beds that don’t feel like afterthoughts, and enough common space that your group can hang out together without feeling cramped. I’ll be honest, the area gets its share of rain – this is the windward side of the Big Island after all – but that’s exactly why everything stays so lush and green. Plus, there’s something cozy about listening to a tropical downpour from inside a comfortable house. The parking situation is straightforward, check-in was smooth, and you’re positioned perfectly for exploring the Hamakua Coast without having to drive back and forth from Kona or deal with Hilo’s limited accommodation options. For twelve people looking to experience the real Big Island while still having a comfortable home base, this place just makes sense.

  Location and facilities. We are a volleyball team and wanted a large room where girls could stay together. Also large living area and wrap around deck for leisure time.
  
  Girls were comfortable here and staff had plenty room too. Full kitchen facilities and dining area were ample.
  
  Easy check in and check out process. Jade and her team left us an aloha message with a nice box of chocolates.

  This property is on a beautiful fruit farm and is incredibly spacious. The decks surrounding the house are perfect for lounging and having breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Air hockey and board games are just added bonuses to enjoy.

  The house was beautiful and our family of 13 fit comfortably. Jade and her team thought of everything— the house had everything you could think of. Had plenty of towels, blankets even shampoo, conditioner, dish liquid and detergent to wash. The property was beautiful and we could pick the fresh fruit— we made lemonade daily (when we weren’t dead tired from our day😂). I would definitely come back without any hesitation. Thank you Jade for making our family vacation so memorable.

  The location was excellent for us. Our function was in Laupahoehoe which made it an excellent commute. The place is idyllic with many fruit trees as advertised. I liked the bamboo trees outside my window. Very tranquil and relaxing– like I was floating in the wster. Close to Hilo for shopping and dining. No place for breakfast other than a mom/pop place. Nothing fancy but we did not partake of their fare. Also opened at 10 which was inconvenient for us.

  The location is good. We wanted to visit Akaka Falls during our stay and this house is right down the road from it (5 min). It is 11 mi from Hilo.
