The Islands at Mauna Lani Point – CoralTree Residence Collection Overview

First Impressions

Walking into The Islands at Mauna Lani Point – CoralTree Residence Collection, you immediately understand why couples rate this place so highly. This four-star property sits right on the Kohala Coast, and honestly, the setting is pretty spectacular — you’re looking out at these dramatic black lava fields meeting impossibly blue water. The whole vibe feels more like staying at a friend’s really nice vacation home than a typical hotel, which I mean, is exactly what you want when you’re trying to unwind in Hawaii.

Location & Setting

The location in Waikoloa is actually perfect if you want to explore the Big Island’s west side without dealing with crowds. You’re close enough to the Mauna Lani Resort amenities — the golf courses, beaches, and restaurants — but far enough away that it feels peaceful and private. What I really appreciated was the free parking (which isn’t always a given at Hawaiian resorts), and you’ll definitely want a car here to explore places like Hapuna Beach or drive up to Waimea for dinner.

The Accommodations

Each room is actually more like a condo — spacious, with a full kitchen that’s genuinely useful if you want to make breakfast or store those amazing local fruits you’ll inevitably buy at the farmers market. The lanais (balconies, for those not familiar with Hawaiian terms) are where you’ll probably spend most of your time, especially in the evenings when the trade winds pick up. I loved having the space to spread out, and the decor strikes that tricky balance between tropical and sophisticated without feeling overdone.

Amenities & Activities

The pool area is really well done — not huge, but perfectly sized and never felt crowded during my stay. There’s no on-site restaurant, but honestly, with that kitchen and all the great dining options nearby, it didn’t matter. The property gives you access to some of the Mauna Lani Resort facilities, which is a nice perk. You know what really impressed me though? The staff actually knows the area and can point you toward the less touristy spots — like the ancient fishponds nearby or the best times to visit the beaches when they’re less busy.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gives you that residential feel while still providing resort-level service and amenities. The 9.6 rating makes total sense when you experience how quiet and well-maintained everything is. Couples especially seem to love the privacy and the romantic sunsets you can watch right from your lanai — and I get it, there’s something special about having your own little slice of the Kohala Coast. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax instead of feeling like you need to be constantly doing something, which honestly, is exactly what a Hawaiian vacation should be about.

The condo we stayed in had everything you could want, great kitchen supplies, glasses, plates etc. Surrounds were amazing and pool was great. The artwork and decor in our condo was also beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I liked everything very much and I want to return to this place. It rarely happens that reality turns out to be better than the photos on the website. Very cozy and clean villa. The kitchen had everything you need and even more. Excellent location – next to a private beach and a grocery store. There is a restaurant on the beach. The villa is on a closed and beautiful territory.
