THE JEWEL BOX home Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to THE JEWEL BOX home in Pahoa, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this three-star spot on the Big Island. But you know what? Sometimes the most unassuming places surprise you the most. This little gem sits in one of Hawaii’s most authentic neighborhoods, where you’ll actually hear roosters crowing in the morning and smell plumeria drifting through the air. The property has this intimate, almost secret feel to it — like you’ve stumbled onto something locals have been keeping to themselves.
The Pahoa Experience
Pahoa isn’t your typical tourist hub, and that’s exactly why couples seem to fall head over heels for this place. I mean, you’re staying in a town where the main street still has that old Hawaii vibe — wooden storefronts, local art galleries, and cafes where everyone knows each other’s names. The location puts you close enough to some incredible natural attractions (Lava Tree State Monument is just minutes away), but far enough from the crowds that you’ll feel like you’re experiencing the real Hawaii. Recent guests keep raving about the location, and honestly, I get it — there’s something magical about waking up in authentic island surroundings.
Your Home Base
The room itself has this cozy, lived-in charm that makes you want to kick off your shoes and stay awhile. It’s not fancy — we’re talking three stars here — but everything you need is thoughtfully arranged. The space feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel, which I think is exactly the point. You’ll find local touches throughout that remind you where you are, and the attention to detail shows someone really cares about your experience. The whole setup just works for couples looking to disconnect and focus on each other.
What Makes It Special
Here’s the thing about THE JEWEL BOX home — it’s earned that perfect 10 rating by doing the simple things really, really well. The hosts clearly understand what travelers actually want: a clean, comfortable space in an authentic setting without any pretense. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or concierge services, but you are getting something arguably more valuable — a genuine slice of local life. I’ve noticed that places like this, where the focus is on creating a real connection to the destination, tend to stick with you long after fancier resorts fade from memory.
Why Couples Keep Coming Back
There’s definitely something about this place that speaks to couples — maybe it’s the intimate scale, or the way Pahoa encourages you to slow down and actually talk to each other. The town has this romantic, slightly bohemian energy that’s perfect for reconnecting. Plus, when you’re staying somewhere that feels this authentic, you end up having those spontaneous adventures that make the best travel stories. Whether you’re exploring tide pools, checking out local farmers markets, or just sitting on the lanai watching the world go by, THE JEWEL BOX home gives you the perfect launching pad for whatever kind of Big Island experience you’re after.
Apartments in Hawaii provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional farmers markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Hawaiian culinary traditions.

Reviews of THE JEWEL BOX home
Marjorie from United States (10/10)
We absolutely loved the location, it is in a residential area and is very quiet. The sunrises were epic, and we spent much time on the decks facing the ocean, enjoying the wave action. The house itself was simple, very comfortable and everything about it was excellent quality, i.e. linens, tableware, cookware, furnishings. We were very impressed and definitely hope to return sooner rather than later.
