The Ohia at The Koi House Overview
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Hawaii, but The Ohia at The Koi House is one of those spots that just gets it right. From the moment you walk in, there’s this calm, zen-like vibe that’s hard to describe – maybe it’s the way the natural wood and stone work together, or how the koi pond (yes, there’s actually a proper koi pond) creates this gentle water sound that somehow drowns out any outside noise. The whole place feels like someone’s elegant private home that you’re lucky enough to crash at.
The rooms are honestly beautiful without being stuffy about it. I mean, you’ve got these huge windows that frame whatever view you’re facing like artwork, and the beds – well, let’s just say I’ve never been a person who cares much about thread count, but these sheets made me understand what all the fuss is about. The bathrooms are spacious with these deep soaking tubs that actually fit a normal-sized human being (revolutionary concept, I know). What really impressed me though was the attention to small stuff – like how they have these locally-made soaps that smell like plumeria without being overwhelming, and the way the lighting is designed so you’re never fumbling around in the dark or squinting under harsh fluorescents.
The location is pretty perfect if you ask me. You’re tucked away enough to feel like you’ve escaped the tourist chaos, but close enough to everything that matters. The staff here actually knows the area – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where locals go for the best poke or which hiking trails are worth your time versus which ones are Instagram traps. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready early, which never happens), and parking is straightforward, which honestly can be a nightmare at some Hawaiian hotels. The property tends to attract a quieter crowd – I didn’t encounter any screaming kids or loud pool parties, which might be a plus or minus depending on what you’re looking for. Honestly, with a 9.4 rating, I was expecting to find something wrong just to balance things out, but the worst I can say is that the WiFi gets a little spotty during heavy rain, and that’s pretty much par for the course anywhere tropical. This place just feels authentic in a way that a lot of newer resorts don’t – like they designed it for people who actually want to experience Hawaii, not just photograph it.

A beautiful house in a quiet location. Sea view is only possible from the upper floor. The appartment (The Ohia) is beautifully furnished and very well and functionally equipped. Coffee, spices and the like are available in the kitchen. And in the bathroom, in addition to the usual care products, after-sun lotion, toothpaste, ear plugs etc. are also available. There were also beach towels, snorkelling equipment and bodyboards for free use. The view from the terrace into the jungle-like garden is marvellous.

The place was wonderful and even larger than the pictures showed. They have been so thoughtful with the lovely decor and the amenities. If you forgot something, I'm guessing it was there. It was great to have the beach chairs, umbrella, snorkeling gear and towels for our beach days. The pool was a big bonus and a great way to cool down at the end of the day.
We were there for 5 nights and were happy every evening to be able to come back to such a welcoming home away from home.Robin from United States (10/10)

Very large living area with a comfortable small bedroom attached to it. This place is great if you are staying for a long period. It has a nice kitchen area which can be utilized, beach equipment for your use is right outside. The bathroom is very well equipped. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here.

It was beautifully decorated and well appointed. The managers were lovely. It was a bit of an oasis after a big day of looking around the sites of Kona. The pool was beautiful and the bed really comfortable. There were a lot of little extras like lotion and Boogie boards provided.
