Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Shack, I thought there might’ve been some mistake. The name doesn’t exactly scream luxury, and from the outside, it’s pretty unassuming. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard, and this little 3-star gem absolutely nails that vibe. I mean, a 9.5 rating doesn’t happen by accident, and after staying here, I totally get why people keep coming back.

The thing about The Shack is that it feels like someone’s really cool relative converted their place into a hotel – and I mean that in the best possible way. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that you just can’t fake, with details that actually matter. Like, the bed is one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in pillows, and the shower pressure (honestly, why don’t more places get this right?) is perfect. The walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway, which is huge if you’re trying to actually sleep. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no upselling, no lengthy explanations of amenities you’ll never use, just friendly people who seem genuinely happy you’re there.

What really won me over, though, is how the staff treats the place. They’re not just going through the motions; they actually seem to care about whether you have a good stay. The front desk folks know the area inside and out – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where locals grab coffee in the morning and which streets to avoid during rush hour. Parking’s easy enough (and free, which is getting rare these days), and the whole vibe is just… relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you can wander down to the lobby in your pajamas if you forgot something, and nobody’s going to give you a look. Sure, it’s not dripping with fancy amenities or marble everything, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. The Shack knows exactly what it is and does it really, really well.

  The room setup was perfect for us, with one couple using the more private bedroom/bathroom above the garage. We loved the large, well-stocked kitchen for family meal prep and the outdoor table for 8 was incredible! This was a family vacation for us but also a big event as our daughter got married on a beach and was SO much more personal to have a home base with family time. We ended up using the paddle boards several times, which at 63 was my first time out! Loved the location close to the night-time Manta Ray excursion. The 8 of us were very comfortable, the place was clean and the couple of things we had trouble with like lost wifi and a key issue was handled swiftly. The only really annoying thing was the annoyingly loud fridge that stopped is from having conversations in the kitchen/living room areas so went outside a lot. We would come back to make more memories if we could!
