The view in kau Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, when I first pulled up to The view in kau on Macadamia Drive, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name pretty much says it all though — this three-star spot is all about that view, and wow, does it deliver. You’re perched up in Hawaiian Ocean View (which, despite the name, is actually a small community rather than a resort town), and the panoramic vistas of the Pacific stretching endlessly toward the horizon are genuinely breathtaking. It’s the kind of place where you immediately understand why couples rate it so highly — there’s something undeniably romantic about watching the sun dip into the ocean from your own private vantage point.

Location & Setting

The thing about staying in Hawaiian Ocean View is that you’re trading the hustle of Kona for something much more peaceful, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re about 45 minutes south of Kailua-Kona, which gives you easy access to all the Big Island attractions while keeping you away from the tourist crowds. The property sits in this quiet residential area where macadamia farms dot the landscape — actually, you’ll probably hear the wind rustling through the trees more than you’ll hear traffic. It’s remote enough to feel like an escape but not so isolated that you’re stuck without options for dinner or supplies.

The Accommodation

My room was simple but thoughtfully set up, with large windows that frame those incredible ocean views I mentioned. The space feels more like a comfortable retreat than a fancy hotel room — think clean lines, local touches, and everything you need without unnecessary frills. What really struck me was how the whole place seems designed around maximizing those vistas. You’ll find yourself just standing at the window with your morning coffee, watching the light change across the water. The furnishings are practical and well-maintained, which is exactly what you want in a three-star property that focuses on location over comfort amenities.

The Experience

You know what makes this place special? It’s not trying to be something it’s not. There’s no fancy restaurant or elaborate spa — instead, you get this authentic Hawaiian experience where the natural beauty does all the heavy lifting. The sunsets here are absolutely incredible, and I found myself planning my entire day around being back in time to watch them from the property. The staff clearly understands that guests come here for the tranquility and the views, so they keep things low-key and helpful without being intrusive. It’s the kind of place where you actually slow down and remember why you came to Hawaii in the first place.

Why Guests Love It

After spending time here, I totally get why couples especially gravitate toward this spot. There’s something about the combination of privacy, natural beauty, and peaceful surroundings that just works for romantic getaways. You’re not dealing with crowded pools or noisy resort activities — instead, you get this intimate setting where you can actually connect with each other and with the incredible Hawaiian landscape. The value is solid too, especially considering that million-dollar view you’re getting. It’s proof that sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that focus on doing one thing really, really well.

The concierge service in Hawaii can arrange exclusive volcano helicopter tours, secure reservations at oceanfront luau restaurants, and organize personalized snorkeling adventures with marine biologists.

Hosts are really kind and friendly. They can give you some tips about the area, what to see etc. They tried to solve our problems that shouldn’t exist in the first place…
    Bed was comfortable
Big TV with some additional speakers so you can listen to your favorite music
They have two big friendly dogs. That’s ok for me. They didn’t let them out when we arrived so it’s ok
Calm area, no noises during the night
    There is a private fridge
