Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places on Kauai over the years, but Timbers Ocean Club is honestly in a league of its own. When you first pull up – and parking is actually straightforward, which isn’t always a given on the island – you get this immediate sense that someone really thought through every detail here. The lobby has this perfect balance of upscale without being stuffy, and the staff genuinely seems happy to see you rather than just going through the motions.
The thing that really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Kauai vibe while still delivering five-star everything. I mean, you’re right there with the ocean sounds hitting you constantly – not just during the day when you’re focused on it, but at night when you’re drifting off to sleep. The residences themselves are spacious in a way that actually makes sense; you can spread out your stuff, leave your beach gear somewhere it can dry, and not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. The kitchens are legit too, which matters if you hit the farmers markets (and you should – the one in Hanalei on Saturdays is incredible). What struck me most was the attention to local touches that aren’t just for show. They’ve got relationships with island artisans, and you can tell the difference between authentic local flavor and the generic “tropical” stuff you see at chain resorts.
Honestly, the location gives you the best of both worlds on Kauai’s south shore. You’re close enough to Poipu that you can walk to some great restaurants – Merriman’s is right there if you want something special – but far enough from the main tourist crush that you’re not dealing with crowds every time you step outside. The beach access is what really sold me though. It’s not one of those places where you have to trek half a mile or fight for a decent spot. And here’s something I really appreciated – the sound insulation is excellent. Even when there are families with kids around the pool area, your room stays peaceful. The whole property just feels thoughtfully designed rather than thrown together to maximize occupancy. If you’re planning a trip to Kauai and want somewhere that feels like a real retreat rather than just a place to crash between adventures, this is it. Just book early – places like this that actually get it right tend to fill up, especially during whale season.

Beautiful spacious apartment, great facilities and not too busy to enjoy them. Pools are lovely, staff professional including the daily cleaners. We had a rental car, essential as this resort is not walking distance to anywhere. We didn’t eat at the resort but enjoyed local restaurants, food trucks and used the well equipped kitchen.
