You know what? When I first walked into Tropical Studios at Marine Surf Waikiki, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But here’s the thing – sometimes the best spots are the ones that surprise you with what actually matters. The lobby’s pretty basic, sure, but the moment the front desk guy mentioned “oh, and your parking’s included,” I knew I’d made the right call. I mean, do you have any idea how much hotels charge for parking in Waikiki? We’re talking $40+ a night at some places.

The studio itself is exactly what you’d want if you’re planning to actually live a little during your stay instead of just crashing between beach sessions. That full kitchen isn’t just a mini-fridge with delusions – it’s got a real stove, decent counter space, and enough dishes that you can make proper meals. Which, honestly, becomes a lifesaver when you realize that eating out for every meal in Waikiki will cost you more than your flight did. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile, and while the furniture won’t win any design awards, everything works. The pool area’s where this place really shines though – it’s tucked away from the street noise, gets morning sun but has decent shade by afternoon, and there’s usually a spot to actually sit (unlike some of the zoo-like pool scenes at the bigger resorts down the street).

Location-wise, well, they’re not wrong about it being prime real estate. You’re basically a two-minute walk from Kuhio Beach, but here’s what the typical hotel descriptions won’t tell you – you’re also close enough to the ABC Store on Kalakaua that you can grab supplies without it being a whole expedition, and that little coffee spot on Seaside Avenue becomes your morning ritual. The trade-off? Yeah, it can get a bit noisy, especially on weekend nights when the Kalakaua Avenue crowd gets going. But if you’re the type who passes out after a day of sun and mai tais anyway, it probably won’t bother you. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it nails the fundamentals that matter when you’re spending most of your time exploring the island anyway. Free parking, a kitchen that saves you hundreds on meals, a decent pool, and you can literally walk to the beach in flip-flops. Sometimes that’s exactly what a good Hawaii trip needs.

  Location is awesome, only a block back off the main road and two blocks off the beach.
  Parking included is a HUGE bonus. Also a proper kitchen in the apartment was handy

  So close to town and the beach. Very easy self check in, full sized kitchen and bathroom was very comfortable to stay with 2 adults 2 children. Was worth the money and we even had beach gear like chairs, umbrella and snorkel. Also, we had free parking!!! Amazing really
