Princeville is already pretty spectacular, but the Villas of Kamali’i sits in what I’d call the sweet spot. You’re close enough to the Princeville Resort area to feel connected to things, but far enough away that you actually get some peace. The property backs up to one of those lush Hawaiian valleys that Kauai does so well — all green ridges and tropical vegetation. I found myself just sitting on the lanai in the evenings, watching the light change on those mountains. It’s the kind of setting that makes couples linger over morning coffee, which probably explains why this place gets such high marks from romantic travelers.

The Accommodations

The villas themselves are spacious in a way that surprised me. We’re talking full kitchens, separate living areas, and bedrooms that actually feel like bedrooms — not hotel rooms pretending to be something else. The decor leans tropical without going overboard (no plastic pineapples here), and everything feels well-maintained. What I really appreciated was having a proper kitchen — it meant we could grab fresh fish from the local markets and cook at home some nights, which honestly became one of our favorite parts of the stay.

The Grounds & Amenities

The property has this relaxed, residential feel that works really well. There’s a pool that’s perfectly adequate without being flashy, and the landscaping is done thoughtfully — lots of native plants and flowering trees that actually belong here. The tennis court gets decent use, and there are walking paths that connect the different villa clusters. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, which I found refreshing. Sometimes you just want a beautiful, comfortable place to decompress, and that’s exactly what this delivers.

You’re not dealing with crowded resort pools or fighting for dinner reservations, but you’re also not roughing it. The location puts you within easy reach of Hanalei Bay and those incredible north shore beaches, while giving you a proper home base to retreat to. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having your own space in such a beautiful setting. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax instead of feeling like you need to be “doing” something every minute of your vacation.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hawaii at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak winter season when the islands host numerous cultural festivals and outdoor activities.

  Excellent location on the island. We enjoyed watching sunrise and sunsets on the pinnacles from the balcony. Pictures show pinnacles from our balcony and pool, as well as shots of family and local overlook.

  No breakfast. Coffee pot replaced same day. Lots of room. Comfortable temperatures. Kichen well equipped. Wifi good. Nice to have Netflix. Pool reasonably close.
