You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Volcano Teapot Cottage – I mean, the name alone had me wondering what I’d gotten myself into. But honestly, this place completely caught me off guard in the best possible way. It’s one of those spots that feels like someone’s quirky aunt designed it with actual love instead of some corporate committee, and somehow it all just works perfectly together.

The whole teapot theme could’ve been cheesy, but they handled it with this sort of whimsical sophistication that actually makes you smile rather than cringe. There are these beautiful ceramic details throughout – not overwhelming, just thoughtful touches that remind you where you are without beating you over the head with it. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (I’m talking about mattresses that don’t leave you feeling like you wrestled a bear all night), and the bathrooms have this amazing rainfall shower situation that I definitely tried to figure out how to install at home. What really got me though was how quiet it stays – even when other guests were around, the sound insulation is surprisingly good. I actually slept past my alarm for the first time in months.

The staff here seem to genuinely care about what they’re doing, which you can tell within about five minutes of checking in. They know the area inside and out – not just the obvious tourist stuff, but the kind of local intel that actually matters. Like, they told me exactly when to hit the nearby hiking trails to avoid crowds, and which little family-run restaurant down the road does the best breakfast (they were absolutely right, by the way). The whole property has this relaxed energy that somehow makes you want to slow down without feeling like you’re missing out on anything. I mean, sure, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on being genuinely comfortable rather than just impressive. By the time I left, I was already planning my next visit – and I’m not usually the type to return to the same place twice.
