Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Waikiki Banyan 28th Floor Ocean View Condo” I thought it was going to be one of those overpriced tourist traps, but this place actually surprised me. The 28th floor thing isn’t just marketing fluff – you’re legitimately high enough to get those sweeping ocean views that make you forget you’re staying in what’s essentially a residential high-rise. And honestly? The free parking alone is worth its weight in gold in Waikiki, where most places charge you $40+ a night just to leave your rental car somewhere.
The condo itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a sterile hotel room, which I mean, can be hit or miss depending on what you’re looking for. The kitchen actually works (I made coffee every morning and threw together some quick meals with groceries from the Foodland on Kapahulu), and there’s enough space that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. The WiFi is solid – I was able to work from the lanai a couple mornings without any issues, though you know what, good luck concentrating when you’ve got that view of Diamond Head stretching out in front of you. The building itself is sort of an older Waikiki institution, so don’t expect pristine marble lobbies or anything fancy, but it’s well-maintained and the elevator situation isn’t terrible (which, trust me, matters when you’re on the 28th floor).
What really sold me on this spot was the location – you’re close enough to the beach chaos that you can walk to everything, but far enough from Kalakaua Avenue that you’re not dealing with the street noise and crowds 24/7. The Banyan is right there on Ohua Avenue, so you can duck down to the beach at Kuhio Beach Park in about three minutes, or if you want something slightly less touristy, the stretch near the Moana Surfrider is just a short walk. Plus, you’re practically next door to some decent local spots – Duke’s for the obvious tourist dinner, but also within walking distance of places like Marukame Udon if you want something quick and actually good. The building has its own little pool area that’s nothing special but gets the job done if you want to avoid the beach crowds for an afternoon. I’d say this place hits that sweet spot where it’s comfortable without being fancy, practical without being boring, and honestly, given what you get for the price point, it’s a pretty solid choice for Waikiki – especially if you’re the type who values having your own space and killer views over having someone make your bed every day.
