Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Waikiki Banyan – it’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals right without trying to be fancy about it. The building itself is this classic high-rise condo tower that’s been around long enough to have character, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach (I mean actually two minutes, not hotel marketing two minutes), and the parking situation alone makes it worth considering since finding a spot in Waikiki can be absolutely brutal.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it sits just far enough back from the main Kalakaua Avenue chaos that you’re not dealing with street noise all night, but close enough that you can still hear the ocean if you get a decent room on the higher floors. The ocean view rooms – well, some are better than others, you know what I mean? Ask for something facing south if you can swing it. The pool area is actually pretty solid too, kind of tucked away on the sixth floor with this nice vibe where you can decompress after a day at the beach without feeling like you’re in a tourist fishbowl. I’ve noticed it gets busy around 2 PM when people come back from morning beach sessions, but early mornings and evenings are usually mellow.
The units themselves are kind of what you’d expect from a well-maintained condo building – nothing Instagram-worthy, but everything works and the kitchenettes are actually useful if you want to grab groceries from the Foodland nearby instead of eating out for every meal. The elevators can be slow during peak times (heads up if you’re on the 30th floor), and the WiFi is decent but not amazing if you’re trying to work. What really sets this place apart though is that parking spot – seriously, do not underestimate how much stress that eliminates from your stay. Plus you’re close enough to walk to Duke’s for sunset drinks, hit up the International Market Place when you need to kill time, or catch the bus to other parts of the island without the headache of moving your car. It’s sort of the sweet spot where you get that authentic Waikiki experience without paying resort prices or dealing with resort crowds in your lobby every morning.
