This place actually delivers on that promise in a way that surprised me. You’re positioned right where you can watch the surfers doing their thing while sipping your morning coffee, and I mean *really* watch them – not just squinting at distant dots in the water.

The thing about this spot is the sunset situation. I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Waikiki that claim sunset views, but you know what usually happens – you get maybe ten minutes of decent light before buildings block everything out. Here, you’re high enough (it’s on the 34th floor, which honestly made me a little nervous at first) that you get the full show. The surfers silhouetted against that golden light? Yeah, it’s kind of ridiculously perfect. And the fact that it’s a 4-star place means you’re getting those views without the crazy resort fees and uptight atmosphere of the big hotels right on the beach.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets once you’re inside – Waikiki can be pretty intense with all the street noise and crowds, but being up that high creates this weird peaceful bubble. The building itself is older, which some people might see as a downside, but I actually liked the character it had compared to those sterile new developments. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to basically everything – Kapiolani Park is right there if you want to escape the tourist chaos for a bit, and you can hit up all the local spots on Kuhio Avenue without dealing with parking nightmares. Speaking of parking, just know that it can be tight in this area, so factor that in if you’re renting a car. The 8.0 rating feels about right to me – it’s not perfect (the elevator takes forever during busy times), but for what you’re paying and what you get, especially those views, it’s solid. I mean, where else are you going to watch surfers and sunsets from your room without dropping serious cash at the Royal Hawaiian?
