You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Waikiki Place Studios at The Marine Surf – I mean, with a name that long, sometimes places are trying too hard. But honestly, this little spot surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying here is you’re getting that real Waikiki experience without the massive resort crowds breathing down your neck. It’s tucked into the heart of everything, so you can actually walk to grab poke at Ono Seafood (seriously, do this) or hit up the ABC Store when you inevitably forget sunscreen. The studios themselves are pretty straightforward – think clean, functional spaces that don’t pretend to be something they’re not. The kitchenettes are actually useful, which is huge because eating out for every meal in Waikiki will drain your wallet faster than you’d think. I loved being able to make coffee in the morning and store leftovers from those massive plate lunch portions.

What really won me over was the vibe of the place. It feels more like a local apartment building than a tourist trap, and you’ll notice it right away – there’s less of that sterile hotel smell and more of that lived-in comfort. The staff knows their stuff too; they’ll tell you which beach access points are less crowded (hint: avoid the main Kalakaua strip during midday) and where to catch the bus to Hanauma Bay. Sure, it’s not luxury – you’re not getting marble bathrooms or a concierge in a fancy uniform – but that 7.5 rating makes sense when you factor in the value. The air conditioning works great, which matters more than you’d think when it’s 85 degrees and humid at 9 AM. I will say the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. You might hear your neighbors coming in from the bars on Lewers Street, but honestly, that’s half the charm of staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than sanitized. For the price point and location, you’re getting a solid base camp for exploring the island – and isn’t that what really matters?

  Great location, close to beach, Royal Hawaiian shopping center, next to a great Asian food/noodle court, ABC store, etc. Designated parking included and patio to watch the view and action in Waikiki! Kitchen available, full size refrigerator.

  I liked the location of it. Seaside up to Kalakaua Ave is only a 1 min walk, and right there you have everything you need in walking distance. It was nice to have a studio with working appliances (fridge, AC, microwave, kitchen sink)

  Location is great. Condo had beach chairs, a cooler, umbrella, beach towels and sand toys. When we had issues with the tub draining, the host was quick to respond and came over the same day to resolve the issue! Yay!
