Waikiki Shore by OUTRIGGER Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Waikiki Shore by OUTRIGGER, you’ll notice it’s not your typical high-rise hotel tower — this four-star property actually feels more like an upscale residential building right on the beach. The lobby is understated but welcoming, and honestly, you’re probably going to be more focused on the fact that you can literally see the ocean from the entrance. What struck me most was how quiet it felt compared to the busier hotels just a few blocks away.

Location & Neighborhood

This place sits in what locals consider the sweet spot of Waikiki — close enough to all the action but far enough from the crowds that gather around the main strip. You’re on Kalia Road, which means you’re actually on the less hectic side of Honolulu‘s most famous neighborhood. The beach access here is incredible, and I mean that — you walk out the back and you’re on a stretch of sand that’s noticeably less packed than the areas near the Royal Hawaiian or Moana Surfrider.

Couples absolutely love this location, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being able to stroll along the beach without dodging street performers and tour groups every few steps. Plus, you’re still within walking distance of everything — the International Market Place is maybe ten minutes away, and Fort DeRussy Beach Park is right next door if you want even more space to spread out.

The Accommodations

Here’s where things get interesting — most of the units here are actually condos, so you’re getting way more space than a typical hotel room. Many come with full kitchens (which is honestly a game-changer when you’re staying for more than a few days), and the ocean views from the higher floors are pretty spectacular. The décor is clean and modern without being sterile, though it’s not going to win any design awards.

What I really appreciated was having a proper kitchen to work with. You know how expensive eating out gets in Waikiki — being able to grab groceries from the Foodland Farms down the street and make breakfast or simple dinners saved me a ton of money. The balconies are generous too, perfect for that morning coffee while watching the surfers catch their first waves.

Amenities & Practical Stuff

The property keeps things simple but does them well. There’s a pool area that’s nothing fancy but gets the job done, and the parking situation is actually pretty great — having a guaranteed spot in Waikiki is worth its weight in gold, trust me. I’ve stayed at places where you’re circling the block for twenty minutes just hoping to find street parking.

The beach gear situation is solid too. They’ve got chairs and umbrellas you can borrow, which might seem like a small thing until you realize how much those rental places on the beach charge. There’s also a small fitness area, though honestly, with the beach right there, you’ll probably get your exercise walking or swimming instead.

What Makes It Special

You know what really sets this place apart? It feels like you’re staying in a local’s apartment rather than a tourist hotel. The building has this residential vibe that makes longer stays actually comfortable — I met people who’d been coming back to the same unit for years, which tells you something about the experience.

The staff knows the area inside and out, and they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations that go beyond the usual tourist spots. They pointed me toward some great local food trucks and told me the best times to hit certain beaches when they’re less crowded. That kind of insider knowledge makes a real difference.

Why You Should Consider It

If you’re looking for that classic Waikiki beach experience but want to avoid feeling like you’re staying in a tourist factory, this is your spot. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really are in one of the best positions in the area. You get the convenience of being in the heart of everything while still having that quieter, more residential feel that makes you want to actually relax rather than just check things off a sightseeing list.

The combination of space, location, and that more authentic Hawaii feeling makes it worth considering, especially if you’re planning to stay for more than just a quick weekend. It’s the kind of place that grows on you — by day three, you’ll feel like you actually live there rather than just visiting.

Reviews of Waikiki Shore by OUTRIGGER

  • Roger from Australia (9/10)

The room was enormous, with 270 degree views over the water round to diamond head. We could easily walk to restaurants, shops, the beach, and tour pick-up spots. Kitchen had everything we needed, bed was very comfortable, and we spent many pleasant evenings on the balcony watching the sun set over the water. Extra special find was the coffee shop on the ground floor, their flat whites were superb!

    Right by the beach

  • Corbin from Canada (7/10)

well-maintained pool area with some nice amenities, like multiple hot tubs, fresh towels, and the option to order food poolside. Overall, while it seems like it was a good experience, it didn't stand out as exceptional due to the price and closing times.
