Hotel Description
So I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Waikoloa Colony Villas 1805, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star property in this part of the Big Island. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming places end up surprising you the most. This condo-style setup sits right in the heart of the Waikoloa Beach Resort area, and while it might not have all the bells and whistles of those massive resort complexes nearby, it’s got something those places often lack – actual character and space to breathe.
The villa itself feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed beach house than a typical hotel room. I mean, you’ve got a full kitchen (which honestly saved me a fortune since resort dining can absolutely wreck your budget), separate living areas, and these lanais that actually make you want to sit outside with your morning coffee. The furnishings aren’t brand new or Instagram-perfect, but everything’s comfortable and functional – sort of that lived-in tropical vibe that feels authentic rather than staged. What really got me was how quiet it stays here, even during peak season. You’re close enough to walk to the Kings’ Shops and Queens’ MarketPlace when you want that resort action, but far enough removed that you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of pool parties and tour groups gathering at dawn.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the lay of the land. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk to Anaeho’omalu Bay (locals just call it A-Bay), which has some of the most consistently swimmable water on this side of the island – none of that rocky, rough surf you’ll fight with at some of the more dramatic beaches. The ancient fishponds there are worth seeing too, especially if you time it right around sunset. Parking’s never been an issue for me, which I can’t say about staying closer to the main resort areas. The 8.0 rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re actually getting for the price point – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, spacious, and genuinely relaxing. The trade-off is that housekeeping isn’t daily like a traditional hotel, and you’ll need to drive or walk a bit for restaurants (though honestly, having that kitchen means you can hit the local farmers markets and actually cook some of the incredible produce they grow here). If you’re the type who wants to be pampered with room service and concierge planning your every move, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want a comfortable base to explore the island from, with enough space to actually unpack and settle in? This place delivers exactly what it promises.
