I mean, sure, it’s technically a 4-star place, but honestly – and I’ve stayed at plenty of Maui properties – the location does most of the heavy lifting here.

The thing about Wailea Ekahi is that it’s sort of the quiet sibling in the Wailea family. While everyone’s fighting for spots at the Grand Wailea down the road, this complex just sits there being perfectly pleasant. Unit 46B specifically has this lanai that faces toward Keawakapu Beach, which locals will tell you is actually better for morning walks than the more famous stretches. The kitchen’s got everything you need (though the coffee maker is one of those basic models that takes forever), and the living area opens up nicely when you slide those glass doors back. I actually found myself leaving them open most evenings because the trade winds were doing their job.

Here’s what nobody mentions in the typical descriptions – parking can be a bit of a dance during peak season, especially if you’re coming back from dinner around the same time as everyone else. But the grounds are genuinely well-maintained, and there’s this little path that cuts down to the beach that feels almost private even though it’s not. The pool area gets busy around 2 PM when families migrate there after beach time, but mornings are pretty peaceful. What I really appreciated was how the whole complex feels residential rather than resort-y – you’ll see the same faces at the mailboxes, people actually living here part-time, which gives it this settled feeling. The 8.0 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but everything works the way it should, the location is genuinely special without being too precious about it, and honestly, you’re in Wailea – step outside and you’re already winning. Just don’t expect concierge service or daily housekeeping, because this is the kind of place where you settle in and pretend you live there for a week.
