You know what caught me off guard about Waipouli Beach Resort? It’s actually got this really nice balance between feeling upscale without being stuffy about it. I mean, it’s got the OUTRIGGER name behind it, so you’re expecting decent quality, but this place sits right on Waipouli Beach in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to Kapaa town for good eats but far enough to avoid the crowds that pile up at Poipu.

The resort itself feels more like a collection of condos than a traditional hotel – which honestly works in your favor because you get actual kitchens and space to spread out. The pools are where this place really shines though. There’s this lazy river situation that winds around, and I watched kids (and let’s be honest, plenty of adults) just float around for hours. The spa’s legit too, though you’ll want to book treatments early because they fill up fast, especially during those busy winter months when everyone’s escaping mainland cold. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – the layout keeps most of the activity contained, so you’re not dealing with people slamming doors or partying until all hours.

Here’s the thing about the location that the photos don’t really show you – you’re literally steps from some of the best snorkeling on this side of the island, but the beach can get a bit choppy depending on conditions. The staff actually knows the water pretty well and they’ll tell you straight up if it’s a good day for swimming or if you should head down to Lydgate instead. Parking’s included (thank god, because that’s not always a given), and you’re maybe ten minutes from those amazing food trucks in Kapaa – the fish tacos at that little yellow truck are absolutely worth the short drive. The resort runs at about 8.6 out of 10 in my book, which feels right. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place on Kauai, but it nails the fundamentals really well. The kind of place where you can roll out of bed, grab coffee from your kitchen, and be on the beach before you’re fully awake.

  Great location. Kitchen had everything you needed. Pool was fun. Friendly/helpful staff. Room was well located right off lobby. Quiet— no noise from other suites.

  Great place for sunrise viewing and convenience to all the island locations. Shopping is directly across the street. kids used the pool every chance they could and the grounds were well kept. Would recommend this location for families, may be a little loud for a romantic trip.

  Property was clean, right on the beach, condo was perfect. Beautiful property! Close to grocery shopping and places to eat. 15 mins from the airport.
