Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Waterfall House? The name isn’t just some marketing gimmick – you actually hear water rushing somewhere in the distance from most parts of the property. I mean, this is Hawaii, so you’re expecting tropical vibes, but there’s something about that constant, gentle sound that makes the whole place feel more secluded than it actually is.
The property sits in one of those spots where you’re close enough to civilization that you won’t feel stranded, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tour bus crowds every morning. Check-in was pretty smooth – the staff has that laid-back island efficiency down pat, where they’re genuinely friendly without being overly chatty. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works and it’s clean. Actually, the bathrooms are surprisingly spacious, which is nice because hotel bathrooms in Hawaii can be hit or miss. The beds are comfortable enough, though if you’re a light sleeper, you might want to pack earplugs – not because it’s loud, but because the building settles and creaks a bit at night (it’s got character, let’s call it).
What really makes this place work is the common areas and the grounds. There’s this lanai area where people tend to gather in the evenings, and honestly, some of my best conversations happened there with other guests just hanging out with drinks. The gardens are well-maintained without looking overly manicured – you get that tropical lushness but it doesn’t feel fake. Parking is included, which might not sound like a big deal until you realize how much some places charge for it. The pool area is decent sized and rarely crowded, probably because a lot of guests are out exploring during the day. I’d say the sweet spot for this place is shoulder season – you get better rates and it’s not packed, but the weather’s still great.
Look, it’s got a 7.9 rating for a reason – it’s solidly good without being spectacular. The location gives you easy access to some of the better hiking trails (ask the front desk, they actually know their stuff), and you’re close enough to town for decent restaurants without being in the thick of things. If you’re looking for a resort with every amenity under the sun, this isn’t it. But if you want a comfortable base camp for exploring with a bit of personality and that authentic Hawaii feel without the resort prices, Waterfall House delivers. Just don’t expect luxury – expect comfort, friendliness, and that waterfall soundtrack that somehow makes everything feel more peaceful.
Hawaii hotels range from charming beachfront bungalows in traditional Polynesian style to elegant oceanfront luxury resorts and modern accommodations with panoramic Pacific views.

The view is amazing and the house is beautiful. Lots of water features which explains the name of the house. Perfect amount of space for our group, although it could probably accommodate more. Loved having access to the full kitchen and grill.

We had everything we needed to make us comfortable (including many small items that some house rentals make you buy/bring yourself). The views were spectacular and the design of the house is just beautiful. No matter what we were doing we rushed back each night to experience sunset from this gorgeous patio. We absolutely loved it.
