I mean, you’re literally walking distance from Kanemitsu Bakery, which makes the best hot bread on the island (seriously, get there early). The fact that couples consistently rate this location so highly tells you something — there’s romance in authenticity, and Molokai delivers that in spades.

The Accommodations

My room was simple but clean, with everything I actually needed for a proper island stay. The furnishings aren’t fancy, but honestly, when you’re spending your days exploring sea cliffs and empty beaches, you just want a comfortable bed and a good shower. What I appreciated most was how quiet it gets at night — no traffic noise, no resort crowds, just the sound of trade winds through the palms. The air conditioning worked well too, which matters more than you’d think after a day hiking in the Hawaiian sun.

I could walk to the wharf where the supply barge comes in (weirdly fascinating to watch), and it’s an easy drive to Halawa Valley or the Kalaupapa Lookout. The staff actually knows the island, not just the tourist spots, so when I asked about good fishing spots or where to catch the sunset, I got real answers. That local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience the real Hawaii.

Look, if you’re expecting resort amenities or white-glove service, this isn’t your place. But if you want to experience Molokai the way it’s meant to be experienced — slowly, authentically, without pretense — then Wavecrest gets it right. The high ratings make sense once you understand what this place is really about. It’s a base camp for adventure, a quiet retreat after long days exploring, and honestly, a reminder of what Hawaiian hospitality used to feel like everywhere. Plus, parking is never an issue, which sounds mundane until you’ve dealt with crowded resort lots on other islands.

  The gardens outside my balcony were absolutely beautiful. The setting of the property on the beach provided beautiful views of the ocean with palm trees swaying in the breeze and the islands of Maui and Lanai in the distance. Birds singing and roosters crowing everyday. I absolutely loved it and I would love to return!

  Fabulous view. You can see Maui & Lana’i right out your balcony. We drove the whole Island and prefer this side as there are more lodgings, restaurants,grocery stores and it’s greener, and right on the water. It is so quiet at night. The kitchen was well equipped. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and it was nice to have a barbecue area. The condo was clean and had everything we needed for a lovely stay.
