Club Wyndham Shearwater Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Club Wyndham Shearwater in Princeville, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “resort” from the outside. This three-star property has more of a residential feel, which actually turned out to be one of its biggest charms. The building sits quietly along Kamehameha Road, and you know what? That understated vibe works perfectly for Kauai’s laid-back North Shore atmosphere. The property’s unassuming exterior belies the comfortable accommodations and thoughtful amenities that await guests inside.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about Princeville — you’re basically in the heart of some of Hawaii’s most stunning scenery, and Shearwater puts you right where you want to be. I mean, you’ve got the Princeville Golf Course practically next door (seriously, it’s less than two miles), and Hanalei Bay is just a short drive down the hill. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free too — there’s plenty of free spots on-site, which honestly feels like a small miracle in Hawaii these days. The strategic location provides easy access to both adventure activities and peaceful relaxation spots throughout Kauai’s spectacular North Shore region.
The Room Experience
My room was more like a vacation apartment, complete with a full kitchen that actually made sense to use. The space felt lived-in rather than hotel-sterile, and I found myself cooking breakfast most mornings instead of hunting for expensive resort dining. The furnishings aren’t going to win any design awards, but everything works well and feels comfortable — sort of like staying at a well-equipped friend’s place rather than a traditional hotel. Each unit features practical layouts designed for extended stays, with ample storage space and comfortable seating areas perfect for unwinding after island adventures.
Amenities That Matter
The hot tub became my evening ritual after long days exploring the island. It’s nothing fancy, but after hiking the Kalalau Trail or spending hours at Hanalei Beach, soaking in those bubbles while watching the sunset was pretty much perfect. What I appreciated most was how uncrowded everything felt — this isn’t one of those massive resorts where you’re fighting for space everywhere you go. The on-site facilities are well-maintained and thoughtfully designed for guests seeking a more intimate retreat experience, creating an atmosphere of tranquil relaxation.
Why Guests Love It
I can see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about the quieter, more intimate setting that just works for two people wanting to escape together. You’re not dealing with crowds of families or party groups — it’s more about peaceful mornings with coffee on your lanai and easy access to both adventure and relaxation. The 8.8 guest rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re actually getting: a comfortable, well-located base for exploring Kauai’s North Shore without the premium resort prices. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, and that honesty is refreshing in a place where so many properties overpromise and underdeliver, making it an authentic Hawaiian experience.
To book a hotel in Hawaii during the famous winter whale watching season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the islands attract tropical paradise seekers and ocean lovers from around the world.

Excellent location with very large rooms, a full kitchen, and laundry facilities. The balcony included lounge chairs and a dining area overlooking the ocean with beautiful views. There was a small pool and jacuzzi also overlooking the ocean. Amazing sunrise views!

We had a 2 bedroom suite and it was spacious with a large deck facing the ocean. Evenings were spent on the deck watching the moonrise and soaking up the incredible sounds of the big surf. It felt like quintessential Hawaii.
