Hawaii Getaway Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Hawaii Getaway? It’s not your typical beachfront resort — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. Tucked away on Mamalahoa Highway in Holualoa, this three-star property sits in the hills above Kona, where you get those sweeping ocean views without the tourist crowds below. The moment I pulled up, I could tell this was going to be different from the usual Hawaii hotel experience.
Location & Setting
Holualoa is one of those places locals actually hang out — it’s an artsy coffee town that most visitors drive right through on their way to somewhere else. But staying here means you’re about ten minutes from Kailua-Kona’s beaches and restaurants, yet far enough up the mountain to catch those incredible sunsets over the Pacific. The free parking on site is clutch because you’ll definitely want a car to explore the area. I mean, you’re perfectly positioned to hit the coffee farms, art galleries, and some of the island’s best local spots that tour buses never reach.
The Accommodations
My room had this relaxed, island vibe without feeling like someone threw every tropical cliché at the walls. The space was clean and comfortable — nothing fancy, but everything you actually need for a Hawaii trip. What really sold me was stepping out onto the lanai in the morning with my coffee, looking out over the coastline while the rest of the island was still waking up. The 9.5 rating makes total sense when you experience how peaceful it feels here, especially compared to the busier resort areas down the hill.
Why Couples Love It
I can see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about being tucked away in the hills that feels more intimate than those massive resort complexes. You get the privacy and quiet you’re looking for, but you’re still close enough to civilization when you want a nice dinner or some beach time. The sunsets from up here are honestly spectacular — and you don’t have to fight crowds to enjoy them from your own space.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is that Hawaii Getaway gives you an authentic slice of island life without breaking the bank. You’re staying in a real Hawaiian community, not some manufactured resort bubble. The location rating of 9.1 from recent guests tells the whole story — once you experience how nice it is to be away from the tourist chaos while still having easy access to everything, it’s hard to go back to the typical hotel strip. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Hawaii for a few days, not just visiting it.
Early hotels booking in Hawaii is essential during major events like the Ironman World Championship, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the islands’ renowned surfing culture and tropical beauty.

I have to admit that from outside doesn't look like much. BUT once you get in you don't want to leave. It is beautiful, clean and the owners are awesome. They help you with anything you need as well as right away they send you a list of things to do and see. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.

Close to everything but far enough away that it was quiet and peaceful! We greatly enjoyed the modern space on a beautiful property – avocados and papayas outdoors and all the amenities we needed indoors. Hosts were awesome, had great communication and were wifi wizards!

New, quiet, out of town , plenty of room, looks much nicer inside than outside ( not quite finished), but wasn’t an issue , nice size kitchen

This place matched the photos exactly. It was an easily accessible location that kept me in proximity to much of what Kailua Kona has to offer. It can be a bit disorienting when you arrive if you arrive in the dark (nighttime is intensely dark in Hawaii); however, the host offered excellent directions so that I could find my bearings! The unit is well appointed with everything you may need including cutlery, dishes, a kettle, bath towels, washer/dryer, and fast wi-fi. I quite enjoyed my stay, and wish I had been there longer! If you're in the area, be sure to book a farm tour at Heavenly Hawaiian Kona Coffee and/or take a shelter dog from the Hawaii Island Humane Society out on a field trip – both are only about a 5 minute drive away from this place!

We really enjoyed our stay at the accommodation. The apartment is well furnished and has all the equipment (kitchen equipment, bathroom equipment, beach equipment, etc.) that you need for a great stay on the island. The accommodation was one of the best we had in Hawaii. The location is also very good. The communication with the host was excellent. We received helpful information and quick answers to our questions. We can recommend the accommodation without reservation. Thanks to the owners/hosts!

Very good communication with the landlord via WhatsApp, who lives next door. Very clean, modern, authentic apartment with excellent facilities. Private parking directly in front of the door.

It is quiet, a little off the beaten track. The garden was great to sit out in. Owner was flexible and helped us. We found great places to eat.
