Hono Kai B17 Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Hono Kai B17 – this isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s honestly one of those places that grows on you. When I first pulled up, I was sort of expecting more from the exterior (the building’s got that classic Hawaii condo vibe, but it’s definitely showing its age a bit), but once you get inside and settled, you start to get why people keep coming back here.
The thing about this place is it feels like staying at someone’s actual apartment rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, the furnishings aren’t fancy – we’re talking standard island casual stuff – but everything works and it’s clean, which honestly matters more than matching throw pillows. The kitchen setup is actually pretty decent if you’re planning to cook some of your meals, and you know what? You probably should, because eating out for every meal in Hawaii gets expensive fast. There’s a Foodland nearby where you can grab groceries, and the local fish market – if you ask around – has some incredible poke that puts most tourist spots to shame. The AC works well, which you’ll appreciate during those sticky afternoon hours, though the trade winds usually pick up by evening and you can open everything up.
What really makes this spot work is the location knowledge you pick up after a day or two. You’re close enough to the action but not right in the middle of the tourist chaos, which I actually prefer. The beach access is decent – not the postcard perfect stuff you see in the brochures, but real Hawaii where locals actually hang out. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during peak times (and honestly, peak season here means it gets pretty busy), but there’s usually something if you’re patient. The noise level is generally fine, though you might catch some street sounds if you’re a super light sleeper. Check-in was straightforward – no fancy lobby experience, but the property manager was helpful and knew their stuff about the area. One thing I’d mention is that this is definitely more of a “base camp for your adventures” kind of place rather than somewhere you’d want to just lounge around all day, but for most people exploring the island, that’s exactly what you want anyway.

For the money, the place was clean and comfortable. I would recommend staying here. Has everything you would need.

Loved the view, shaded but still nice view, shade also meant we didn’t need a/c. Also within walking distance of local attractions. Loved the balcony, ate all our breakfasts out there.
