Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Ilikai Marina – it’s one of those places that’s been around forever in Waikiki, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. When you walk into this city view studio, you’re not getting the newest finishes or the fanciest everything, but you know what? You’re getting a slice of old-school Hawaii that actually feels authentic in a neighborhood that’s increasingly… well, let’s just say touristy.
The studio itself is pretty much what you’d expect from a 3-star spot – clean, functional, with that slightly worn-in feel that somehow works in Hawaii. I mean, the furniture has definitely seen some years, but everything’s well-maintained and the air conditioning actually works (trust me, you’ll care about this more than the thread count on the sheets). The city view part is legit too – you’re looking out at Honolulu’s skyline instead of just staring at another hotel tower, which is honestly refreshing. Sure, it’s not the ocean, but there’s something kind of cool about watching the city wake up in the morning with your coffee.
What I really appreciate about staying here is the location without the insane price tag of the beachfront places. You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the beach, but you’re not paying those front-row prices. The marina downstairs is actually pretty active – sometimes you’ll hear boats coming and going early in the morning, but it’s not annoying noise, more like… I don’t know, it feels like you’re part of the real Hawaii instead of just visiting it. Plus, and this is something the fancy hotels won’t tell you, parking here is way less of a headache than most places in Waikiki. The building has that classic 70s Hawaii architecture thing going on – kind of retro in a good way, though the elevators are definitely showing their age (they work fine, just don’t expect speed).
The 7.9 rating makes total sense to me because this place delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. You’re getting a solid, no-nonsense base camp for exploring Oahu, with staff who’ve been around long enough to actually give you decent local recommendations. It’s not going to wow you with marble bathrooms or infinity pools, but honestly? After a day of hiking Diamond Head or snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, you just want a comfortable bed, good AC, and maybe a decent view to unwind with. The Ilikai Marina nails all of that without breaking the bank, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Apartments in Hawaii provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional farmers markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Hawaiian culinary traditions.

Nothing really! It was extremely far walk to the beach and on our second night we walked in to cockroaches! I tried to brush it off and as I was getting ready for bed A BED BUG WAS CRAWLING IN BED!
