Kaimana Beach Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Kaimana Beach Hotel, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Waikiki tourist trap. The three-star property sits quietly on Kalakaua Avenue, and honestly, that’s part of its charm — it feels more like a well-kept local secret than a flashy resort. The lobby has this understated Hawaiian vibe that doesn’t try too hard, which I actually appreciated after seeing so many over-the-top themed hotels in the area. You know what struck me most? The staff genuinely seemed to know their regular guests by name, something you don’t see much anymore.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Kaimana Beach Hotel’s location — couples absolutely rave about it, and I can see why. You’re right on Kalakaua Avenue, which means you can walk to Diamond Head, hit the beach, or grab dinner without dealing with parking nightmares (though the hotel does have private parking, which is honestly a godsend in Waikiki). The Kaimana Beach area is quieter than the main Waikiki strip, so you get that local feel while still being close enough to everything. I mean, you can walk to the zoo, the aquarium, and some of the best local food spots that tourists usually miss.

The Rooms

The accommodations are comfortable without being fancy — think clean, functional, and surprisingly spacious for Waikiki standards. My room had this simple island decor that felt authentic rather than manufactured, and the air conditioning actually worked well (trust me, that matters in Hawaiian humidity). The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but even the city-facing rooms have character. What I really liked was how quiet it stayed at night — the hotel’s positioning shields you from most of the Kalakaua Avenue traffic noise.

Food & Dining

The breakfast situation here is actually pretty solid — they do American-style options and have this breakfast-to-go setup that’s perfect if you want to eat on the beach or head out early for hiking. Honestly, the food gets high marks from guests, and I can see why. It’s not gourmet, but it’s fresh and well-prepared, which is more than you can say for a lot of hotel dining. The portions are generous too, and the coffee is strong enough to fuel your Diamond Head climb.

Why Guests Love It

What makes Kaimana Beach Hotel work is its authenticity in a neighborhood that’s increasingly losing that quality. The 8.5 rating reflects what you actually experience — solid service, great location, and fair value without the inflated prices of beachfront resorts. Couples especially seem to connect with the more intimate vibe here, and I get it — there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on the basics and does them well. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or celebrity chef restaurants, but you are getting a genuine Hawaiian experience in one of the best spots on the island.

Apartments in Hawaii provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional farmers markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Hawaiian culinary traditions.

It’s in a great location in a less busy part of Waikiki, the lobby is adorable retro Hawaiiana. The view is fabulous!

  • Leeann from United States (9/10)

Amazing quiet location, incredible view, beautiful beach, low key vintage vibe, friendly helpful staff, wonderful lei making class. proximity to urban Waikiki was perfect for me.

  • Tilo from Switzerland (7/10)

When I arrived, the hotel wanted to charge me another $40 per night even though I had paid in advance. After I complained, they waived the charge. Parking for 2 days cost $100. The room was very basic but OK, it was clean except for the dust under the bed, the location was good and you could sleep peacefully, the staff was friendly.

  • Michael from United States (8/10)

    Quiet location on the beach

  • Judy from United States (9/10)

The breakfast was good. However the eggs benedict are not as they have been in the past. The bread used us inconsistent and the hollandaise is not reliable. The eggs are somewhat overcooked.

  • Jean from Canada (9/10)

Location, quietness near park and green view on the ocean, free chairs for the beach. Great beach accessibility

  • Cameron from United States (8/10)

The property was nice. Rooms were clean and well decorated. The bar and restaurant was a great hang out on the beach!
