Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Kauhale Makai 230 – it’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works. When I first pulled up, I wasn’t blown away by some grand entrance or anything like that. It’s got this low-key, residential vibe that actually makes sense once you realize you’re staying in what feels more like a neighborhood than a typical hotel strip.
The thing about this place is that it sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the chaos. I mean, you can actually hear the ocean at night – not just during the day when there’s less traffic and noise. The rooms themselves are pretty solid for a 3-star spot. Nothing groundbreaking, but the AC works well (and trust me, you’ll want that), the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back, and there’s decent space to spread out your stuff. What I really appreciated was that they clearly understand what travelers actually need – good water pressure in the shower, outlets where you need them, and blackout curtains that actually block light.
The staff here gets it too. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling attempts, and when I had a question about parking (because let’s face it, parking can be a nightmare in some areas), they gave me the real scoop on where to go and when spots tend to open up. You know what really sold me on the place though? The little details that show someone’s paying attention – like how they keep the common areas clean without that overpowering chemical smell some places have, and the way the landscaping actually looks maintained rather than just thrown together. It’s not resort-level fancy, but it feels cared for. The location puts you in a good position to explore without feeling like you’re stuck in a tourist bubble. I could walk to grab coffee in the morning (there’s this little spot locals go to that’s way better than the chain places), and getting to the main attractions didn’t require some complicated journey. Honestly, for what you’re paying and what you get, the 8.1 rating makes perfect sense. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. If you’re looking for over-the-top luxury, keep looking. But if you want a solid base that lets you focus on actually enjoying your trip instead of dealing with hotel drama, this place delivers.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hawaii at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak winter season when the islands host numerous cultural festivals and outdoor activities.

The pool is amazing, the beach is very close and the view was beautiful. There was beach gear and enough towels supplied.
The town of Kihei has restaurants and shops, everything one might need. The unit’s kitchen was well equipped for cooking.
As a party of 4, we were happy to find an inflatable guest bed in the unit, which was much more comfortable (and easier to stow) than the sofa bed.Stephen from United States (9/10)

The property was centrally located and near to everything we wanted to check out. Our room had things we needed for cooking as well as going to the pool/ beach. Our view was beautiful and relaxing.

The location was great and the grounds were very nice. We had a couple of issues and AA Oceanfront (the condo rental company) was very responsive.
