You’re literally a stone’s throw from the beach – I mean, you can hear the waves from your lanai, which honestly became my favorite spot for morning coffee. The unit itself has that lived-in Hawaii vibe that feels authentic rather than resort-polished. Sure, the furniture’s not brand new and the kitchen could use some updating, but everything works and it’s clean, which is really all you need when you’re spending most of your time outside anyway. The shower pressure is actually decent (thank god, because I’ve stayed in some expensive places where you’re basically getting misted), and there’s surprisingly good storage space for all your beach gear.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so close to everything. The complex sits just far enough back from South Kihei Road that you don’t get the constant traffic noise, but you can still walk to Foodland in like five minutes when you need groceries or forgot sunscreen again. And here’s something the photos don’t show you – the parking situation is totally manageable, which if you’ve ever tried to find a spot near Wailea during peak season, you know is basically a miracle. The building’s got this old-school Hawaii apartment feel where neighbors actually wave at each other, and I saw the same local families using the pool area every evening, which tells you something about the vibe. I mean, the pool’s nothing fancy – just a rectangle with some decent loungers – but it does the job when you need to rinse off the salt or let the kids burn some energy. My only real complaint? The Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty during busy evening hours, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re trying to disconnect. For the price point and that 8.0 rating, Kihei Bay Surf delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, no-frills base camp that puts you right where you want to be without breaking the bank.
