Kihei Kai Nani 161 Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Kihei Kai Nani 161, I’ll be honest — it’s not going to blow you away with flashy exteriors or grand lobbies. This three-star property in Kihei is more about substance than style, and honestly, that’s exactly what works about it. The building has that classic Hawaiian condo feel, and you can immediately sense you’re in one of those spots where locals actually hang out rather than just another tourist trap.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this place — the location is genuinely fantastic, and I mean that in practical terms, not just marketing speak. You’re right in the heart of Kihei, which puts you walking distance from some of the best beaches on this side of Maui. Kalama Beach Park is literally right there, and you know what? The snorkeling is incredible without having to drive anywhere. Plus, you’ve got actual restaurants and shops nearby that aren’t just designed to separate tourists from their money.
The Room Experience
The room itself is pretty straightforward — clean, functional, with that slightly dated Hawaiian decor that’s actually kind of charming. What really matters is that sliding door that opens to your lanai, where you can sit with your morning coffee and actually hear the ocean. The kitchen setup is basic but totally workable if you want to grab some fresh fish from the local market and cook it yourself. I mean, why wouldn’t you when you’re this close to some of the best seafood on the island?
The Real Kihei Experience
What sets this place apart is how it puts you right in the middle of authentic Kihei life. You’re not isolated in some resort bubble — you’re where people actually live and work. The morning walks along the beach path are incredible, and you’ll find yourself chatting with locals who’ve been coming to the same spots for decades. There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels real, you know? The property might not have a fancy spa or elaborate amenities, but you’ve got the entire South Maui coastline as your backyard.
Why Guests Love It
Look, couples especially seem to get what this place is about — there’s a reason they rate the location so highly. It’s that sweet spot where you can walk to dinner, hit multiple beaches without moving your car, and still feel like you’re experiencing the real Hawaii rather than some sanitized version of it. The parking situation is straightforward, which honestly matters more than you’d think in this area. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, but when you’re spending most of your time exploring Maui’s incredible coastline and soaking up that South Shore vibe, you’ll appreciate having a comfortable, well-located base that doesn’t break the bank.
To book a hotel in Hawaii during the famous winter whale watching season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the islands attract tropical paradise seekers and ocean lovers from around the world.

We stayed at the Kihei Kai Nani last year, in a 2nd floor unit, close to the cabana. It had two TVs, (both with Roku, so I could access my own accounts and watch what I wanted), two air conditioners, a cooler to use during our stay, properly equipped kitchen and bath, and was overall a MUCH better unit, a much more pleasant and comfortable trip. AND even cost less!

Good location, but hard to find since apt number (8) was not on the building as it was for all the other units.
Kitchen fully equipped to meet our needs. Loved the full window front overlooking lovely bushes and palms. Door code worked well. Thank goodness for the oscillating fan which shot the a/c back to the bedroom, which would’ve been too hot otherwise.Benedict from United States (6/10)
