This three-star property sits right on Keawakapu Beach in Wailea, and while it doesn’t have the marble lobbies of its five-star neighbors, it has something better: an authentic Hawaiian vibe that feels lived-in rather than staged. The building itself is older, sure, but there’s a charm to its low-rise design that actually lets you see the ocean from most angles without feeling like you’re staying in a concrete tower.

Location & Beach Access

Here’s what the fancy resorts down the road can’t give you — direct access to one of Maui’s best beaches without the crowds. Keawakapu Beach stretches for nearly a mile, and you know what? Most tourists never find this end of it. I’ve watched couples walk this stretch at sunset (no wonder they rate the location so highly), and you’ll often have entire sections to yourself. The snorkeling right out front is decent too, though you’ll want to head south toward the rocks for the better fish action. Wailea’s shopping and dining scene is all within walking distance, but you’re far enough from the main resort strip that it stays quiet.

The Accommodations

The rooms at Mana Kai Maui are actually condos, which means you get a full kitchen — something that’ll save you serious money on this expensive island. Most units have been updated over the years, though you might get one that’s more, well, authentic to the 1970s aesthetic. The oceanfront units are worth the extra cost if you can swing it; waking up to whales breaching outside your lanai during winter months is pretty unforgettable. The trade winds flow through these units naturally, so you won’t always need the AC cranking like you do at some of the sealed-up resorts.

Amenities & Atmosphere

Don’t expect a spa or multiple pools here — there’s one decent-sized pool that gets the job done, and honestly, with that beach right there, you probably won’t use it much anyway. The property has a small market for basics, which is handy since the nearest grocery store requires a drive. What I really appreciate is how quiet it stays; families come here, but it’s not the spring break crowd you’ll find at some Kaanapali properties. The staff has that local knowledge you want — they’ll tell you which food trucks to hit and where the locals actually go for poke.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it delivers on the essentials without the resort fees and pretense. You’re paying for location and beach access, not fancy amenities you might not use anyway. The couples who keep rating this place highly get it — sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base with a killer view and easy beach access. It’s not going to wow you with marble bathrooms or infinity pools, but after a day of exploring Haleakala or driving the Road to Hana, you’ll appreciate having a real kitchen and a lanai where you can actually hear the waves.

  This is my favorite property to visit. I love that the beach is so close and feels relatively private. The outdoor shower is convenient to rinse off the sand so you can easily go to the pool. I love being able to sit on my deck and hear the ocean or leave the doors open to hear the waves while I fall asleep. The property is clean and well maintained. The location is easy to access from the airport. It's close to many places to eat. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and we loved grilling outside and impeccably maintained grills. Our bed was comfortable and our room had ac when it got too warm. The staff at the Mana Kai was very friendly. Wifi was strong so I could work some in the morning from my deck. I loved being able to get up and take a long walk on the beach before I started the rest of my day. Sunsets were the highlight of the day.

  Location was great. Plenty of parking and access to beach was nearby. 808 Store well stocked with lots of variety for supplies with coffee, snacks, deli items for lunches and light dinners. Staff friendly and helpful.
