Maui Kamaole Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Maui Kamaole, you immediately get that laid-back Maui vibe — it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top, which honestly feels refreshing after seeing so many resorts that scream for attention. This three-star property sits right in Wailea, and I mean, the location alone makes it worth considering. The buildings are low-rise and spread out across well-maintained grounds, giving you that authentic Hawaiian condo-resort feel rather than the massive hotel tower experience you’ll find elsewhere on the island.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying at Maui Kamaole — you’re literally across the street from Kamaole Beach Park III, which is one of those beaches locals actually use (always a good sign). You can walk to the beach in under two minutes, and it’s got decent snorkeling on the south end if you’re into that. Wailea’s fancy resort strip is just down the road, so you get access to those high-end restaurants and shops without paying resort prices for your room. The Shops at Wailea are maybe a 10-minute drive, and honestly, having that flexibility to bounce between the more affordable local spots and the upscale Wailea scene is pretty ideal.
The Accommodations
The units here are actually condos, which means you’re getting way more space than a typical hotel room — we’re talking full kitchens, separate living areas, and private lanais. I stayed in a two-bedroom unit that easily could’ve housed a family of six comfortably. The kitchens are fully equipped (though the appliances aren’t exactly brand new), and having that fridge and cooking space saves you serious money on Maui’s notoriously expensive restaurant scene. The lanais face either the ocean or the mountains, and while the ocean views are obviously premium, even the mountain-facing units get gorgeous sunset light in the evenings.
Amenities & Atmosphere
There are two pools on the property, and they’re both pretty decent sized — not crowded like you’d expect at a bigger resort. The tennis court gets used regularly, and there’s a barbecue area that’s actually well-maintained (I’ve seen some sad grilling situations at other places). What you won’t find here are things like a spa, multiple restaurants, or organized activities, but that’s sort of the point. It’s more about having a comfortable home base where you can do your own thing. The grounds are kept up nicely with tropical landscaping, and it feels peaceful without being isolated.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really click with Maui Kamaole, and I can see why — it strikes that sweet spot between having your own space and being close to everything Wailea offers. You’re not dealing with crowds of families at the pool, but you’re also not stuck in some remote location. The beach access is genuinely excellent, and having a kitchen means you can grab fresh fish from the local markets and actually cook it yourself. For the price point, you’re getting a lot more room and flexibility than most Maui accommodations offer, especially in this area.
