Puu Poa 102 Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Puu Poa 102 honestly feels like stepping into someone’s well-loved vacation home rather than a typical hotel. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Princeville, and you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a comfortable, unpretentious place where you can settle in and feel at home on Kauai’s north shore.
The Location Magic
I mean, let’s talk about why guests keep raving about this spot (they’ve given it a 9.5 for location, which is pretty impressive). You’re literally minutes from Hanalei Bay, and honestly, that drive down into Hanalei town never gets old — those mountain views are something else. The Princeville area itself is sort of this perfect middle ground where you get the resort feel without all the crowds. Plus, you’re close enough to both the dramatic Na Pali coastline and some of the island’s best beaches that you won’t spend half your vacation just driving around.
The Space Itself
The room setup here is what really works for couples — and apparently they’ve figured that out, because pairs consistently rate this place highly. It’s got this relaxed, residential vibe that makes you want to actually hang out rather than just crash for the night. The space feels lived-in in the best way possible, with those little touches that make you think someone actually cares about your stay. You’ll find yourself making coffee in the morning and just sitting there taking in the surroundings, which honestly isn’t something that happens at every hotel.
What Makes It Work
Here’s the thing about Puu Poa 102 — it’s not flashy, but it gets the fundamentals right. The property has this quiet confidence about it, probably because it knows its location does most of the heavy lifting. You’re in Princeville, so you’ve got access to golf courses, hiking trails, and some seriously good beaches, but you’re also tucked away enough that it doesn’t feel touristy. The whole setup just makes sense for people who want to explore Kauai without dealing with the chaos of busier resort areas.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back (and rating it well despite being a more modest property) is that authentic Hawaiian experience you get here. You’re not isolated in some resort bubble — you’re actually in a real community where you might grab groceries at the local store or chat with residents at nearby spots. The fact that couples specifically love this place tells you something about the atmosphere — it’s intimate without being stuffy, comfortable without being boring. At the end of the day, you’ll find yourself planning your next Kauai trip before you’ve even left, and that’s really what you want from any place you stay, right?
To book a hotel in Hawaii during the famous winter whale watching season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the islands attract tropical paradise seekers and ocean lovers from around the world.

Overall great location – especially if you like a gated/planned community atmosphere – safe, quiet and beautifully landscaped. The unit itself is also beautiful and well-appointed and seems to have been recently refurbished, with nice beachy touches. There is plenty of seating, kitchen and bathroom space. We were only one couple, but it could easily hold 2 couples, as long as one is willing to sleep in a queen bed. The king bed was very comfortable. The kitchen has plenty of pots/pans, plates, utensils, etc. There are large sliding doors, which are beautiful and provide a great ocean view with a large grassy area out back. The pool area was superb – and was never overcrowded – great water temperature, plenty of umbrellas and lounge chairs and very well-maintained. I saw other comments about a lot of stairs, but we didn't find that to be the case at all – access was very easy and we have no complaints!

This condo was gorgeous! The photos really don’t do it Justice. It was so well appointed w furniture and furnishings. Awesome huge walk in shower. Great beds. Stunning ocean view and sunsets. Steps to the pool. In a beautiful part of Princeville. This place was just absolutely top notch! Very quite and exclusive area. The pool over looking the ocean was so beautiful.
