You know what struck me first about the Residence Inn Maui Wailea? It’s actually tucked away from the chaos of those massive resort complexes that dominate this stretch of coastline. I mean, you’re still in Wailea – so you’ve got all that pristine beach access and the whole luxury vibe – but this place feels more like you’re staying in a really nice condo that happens to have hotel services. The suites are genuinely spacious, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dealing with sandy beach gear and maybe traveling with kids who seem to explode their stuff everywhere.

The location is pretty sweet if you know Wailea at all. You’re walking distance to Wailea Beach (the one locals actually prefer over some of the more crowded spots), and here’s something I appreciated – the Grand Wailea and Fairmont are right there if you want to wander over for dinner or drinks, but you’re not paying those insane nightly rates. The kitchenettes in every room are actually functional too, not just some sad mini-fridge situation. I ended up making breakfast most mornings because, let’s be real, hotel breakfast prices in Wailea can be brutal. There’s a Safeway about ten minutes away in Kihei if you need groceries, though the drive back up can get a bit congested during peak hours.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to actually care about giving you local intel. The front desk folks pointed me toward Makena Beach – which is just a few minutes south and way less touristy than the main Wailea beaches. They also mentioned the best times to hit the snorkeling spots before the tour boats show up, which turned out to be solid advice. The pool area isn’t huge, but it’s got that relaxed vibe where you can actually find a quiet spot to read. And honestly, the 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but everything works well and the value proposition makes sense. The only minor complaint I’d have is that some of the room furnishings feel a bit dated, but nothing that actually impacts your stay. If you’re looking for that classic Maui luxury resort experience with the spa treatments and elaborate pools, this isn’t it. But if you want a comfortable base to explore the island without completely destroying your budget, and you appreciate having some space to spread out, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

  Breakfast was good-lots of choices and food was fresh. Pool was nice-empty and pleasant music. They arranged a cab to the airport for our group.

  Breakfast was good and appreciated. Not having to buy an additional meal a day was good. However after staying at Residence Inn for 7 consecutive days the breakfast is too repetitive and not good after 3 days. I think it would be better to have more options and variety. In especially the way eggs are prepared, the eggs did not have salt and were scrambled every day. An omelet one day, scrambled the next, egg and tomato the following, etc, etc. Other than that the staff who help with breakfast are top notch! Veryy friendly and accommodating. Tables were cleaned immediately for the guests who would not clean after themselves.
