Valley Isle Resort Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Valley Isle Resort in Kahana, I’ll be honest — it’s not going to blow you away with flashy exteriors or marble lobbies. This three-star property has that laid-back Maui vibe that actually feels more authentic than some of the mega-resorts down the coast. The building sits right where you want to be on the island’s west side, and you know what? Sometimes location really is everything.
The Sweet Spot Location
Here’s the thing about Kahana — it’s perfectly positioned between the tourist chaos of Kaanapali and the quieter stretches up north. You’re literally minutes from some of Maui’s best snorkeling spots, and I mean the kind of places where you’ll see sea turtles just hanging out like it’s no big deal. The resort earned a 9.5 rating for location from recent guests, and honestly, I get it. You can walk to decent restaurants, grab groceries without a major expedition, and still feel like you’re in paradise rather than a strip mall.
The Room Experience
My room was clean and comfortable — nothing fancy, but it had everything I actually needed for a Maui stay. The best part? Most units come with a decent view, and if you’re lucky enough to snag an ocean-facing one, those sunsets are absolutely worth it. The kitchenette setup is pretty handy too, especially since eating out for every meal on Maui can drain your wallet faster than you’d expect. I actually appreciated having the option to make coffee in the morning and store some snacks.
What Makes It Work
Look, this isn’t a resort where you’ll spend all day lounging by an elaborate pool complex — and that’s kind of the point. The property feels more like a comfortable home base for exploring the island. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the best beaches or where to catch the sunrise at Haleakala. There’s parking available (which isn’t always a given in this area), and the whole place has this relaxed atmosphere where you can actually unwind.
Why Guests Love It
With an 8.1 overall rating, Valley Isle Resort clearly hits the sweet spot for travelers who want a solid, no-nonsense stay in an excellent location. Couples especially seem to appreciate the quieter setting — it’s romantic without being overly formal or expensive. You’re paying for the location and comfort, not for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. I mean, when you’re on Maui, are you really going to spend time in a hotel spa when you could be snorkeling at Napili Bay five minutes away? The resort gets that, and focuses on being a great launching pad for your Maui adventures rather than trying to keep you on property.

The room was absolutely wonderful. The view from the balcony was amazing. The room was large with a full kitchen, living room and a bedroom. Sunsets were perfect from the balcony! We slept in the living room and listened to the waves crashing all night. The water was about 50 feet from the room. We stayed at 4 different places during our Hawaiian vacation. This was our favorite!

I like the property. I've stayed there for years, but the condo itself, not so much.
I liked that it had a washer and dryer.
I love the ocean-front view.Michael from United States (6/10)
The location is good. The view from the balcony was exceptional. Easy parking.

The view out off of the balcony was amazing. Plenty of parking and not far from the main road, Great whale watching right off of the balcony but that's about all that is good for this place. You will need a car as there is really nothing close by here except for Dollies Pub that wasn't too bad.

Key code sent to me via app and via email so it we had it without any specific check in. The room itself was nicely appointed. There were great little touches like the decorations and amenities. It was right on the beach. Our first impression was a good one. However, that quickly soured due to the problems and roaches.
